Hi all.

Hope you are all well?

My name is Russell and i live in Essex and i am dreaming of owning a ES!

I am a total car nut and have been since i was a very small boy and i have always admired Lexus cars from afar because they are different to every other prestige car on the road.

Plus they look much cooler with their own style ......especially over their German rivals and they are ultra reliable!

What i have never understood is the stigma attached to Lexus cars that only older people would own a Lexus.....but in my mind why wouldn't you want own a car that is ultra reliable, different and unique style wise?

I really have a hankering for an ES and i hadn't seen one in the metal until this week when one passed me in traffic in white and it looks absolutely stunning.....so much so, i must have an ES!

In reality i shall have to wait for my current PCP deal to end in a year and a half before i get my first Lexus, so i thought i would join this forum to learn all about the ES and contribute to the threads.

Anyway, many thanks everyone and i look forward to reading through all of the content on this forum 😃

Hi Russell and welcome to the best Lexus forum there is. Yes the ES is stunning looking car. Colour is an objective subject.

Hopefully you've seen the ES section of this forum.

So. What do you know about the ES apart from how it looks? Do you know it has CVT  transmission? What's your car ownership history? Have your cars been manual gearbox or automatic gearbox? If auto then good. Manual not so good. Why? Well my 1st Lexus was the is300h. Loved the car but couldn't get to grips with the CVT gearbox. All my previous cars were manual gearboxes. So unfortunately I swapped it fir an auto which I had for a year then I got another is300h and boy oh boy loved it.

It's good that you see there's a stigma around Lexus ownership. The thing is, as I see it, Lexus cars are just oh so wonderful to be in and drive. Yes the reliability of them, especially the first few generations of models, is second to none.

But from what I understand is you'll be getting new so reliability won't be an issue.

I don't understand PCP as I've just gone HP but I believe that one can return a vehicle and cancel the PCP and go for a different vehicle. I may be wrong but I'm sure I'm not. Maybe look into it.

Hi Vlad....and thank you for your warm welcome.

I have had a little look in the ES section of the forum but i shall start reading through all of the threads properly when i get chance.

I know a fair amount about the ES as i have been watching many videos about them on YouTube!

I have had many many cars over the years, which is something i get ribbed for by friends and family. All of them have been manual apart from 1 but i have driven many automatics over the years.

99% of my driving is around town so i believe the ES would be well suited to, especially being an automatic of sorts.

Oh yes....i know about the stigma and it is something that i definitely do not care about..if anything, it makes me want a Lexus more and makes the people that buy the German brands look even more silly!!

I'm not sure if i shall be buying new or not.....my Wife might kill me, but hey ho!

I can get the entry level ES with a discount through CarWow for £36k, and i think the entry level version would suit as it is very well specced and loaded as is and am not much for a gadget and gizmo lover.

Plus there is the added benefit of the warranty being valid up to the car being 10 years old or 100k miles on the clock with each yearly service which is a bonus!

But i could get a 2020ish ES from a Lexus dealer with around 20k miles on the clock for around 26-27k (for which could be an 'F Sport model or higher) which is quite a saving over the new but discounted price and i only cover around 6-7k miles a year anyway so buying used will not be a problem.

So with the whole PCP thing...i will have a balloon payment to make to keep my current car, which is the minimum the car will be worth at 4 years old.

I can not pay the balloon and hand the car back and walk away, or hopefully the car will be worth more than the balloon payment so i could part exchange it in for the ES and the dealer would settle the finance and any amount over the balloon amount would go towards the ES along with a further deposit i will have by then.

Thank you again for your help and comments 😀

Clarkie.

Hello Russel, welcome to the ES Forum.  I’m sure you will have been well informed by reading all about the ES. The positives and negatives.  I enjoyed your comments on style etc.  I’m on my 3rd now. I feel that you should look and drive, alternatives before you make your mind up. Remember it is a big car and can be a pain parking and traversing out of car parks etc. due to the limited steering lock.  Keep on reading the forum.

Hi Colin,

Thank you for your help and comments.

Wow....to be on your third ES...you really must love them!

Love that it is a big car as the space is always very handy as i have 2 children!

Plus i am used to a large vehicle as i once bought an imported Nissan Elgrand 3.5 V6 which is a large 7 seater!

Regarding car parks...much to the annoyance of my wife, i park as far away from the shop as possible so as not to get parking dents etc, so hopefully parking a ES won't be too much of an issue! 😂
