Map updates

Recommended Posts

Just had my car over 2 weeks now and when I go to see if there is a map update it comes up with the following (photo below).
mentioned this to my dealer and told me that its because there is no map updates and I am on the latest version.
I would have thought that it would have come up with no map updates or your maps are up to date like it does with the software update.
To me this looks like I don’t have permission or not able to get map updates.
anyone else come across this.

Many thanks.

They told me at the dealer that it was happening a lot where you have to login again and they told me rather than sync my phone to sync my key and every time I get in my car it recognises me straight away.

I get that same message since I picked my car up over 2 months ago. I have also synced my key so it recognises me every time I get in the car but it's made no difference to the message.

I’ve had that message since I had mine in March 2022.

I asked the dealer about it and they said they’d do the update. Car ended up being with them for 2 days being updated!

They didn’t know why I couldn’t do it

New map updates are usually issues 2x per year. Next one is due Nov & when I asked recently my dealer said to book it in & they will do it since OTA updates aren’t available due to the time required for an update to take place

Interesting, what if you connect the car to WiFi?

When I picked up my car in Sep 22, I was told map updates were usually released in October/November each year. I asked about getting the map updated when my car was serviced last month and was told that it wasnt necessary and I could expect around 24 updates each year. This would make sense if small OTA were being done and is a much better idea than one dealer update per year. It worries me that two different dealers are telling their customers two different things.

Yes it is worryingly Malcom but at a guess I would say that your dealer is stating what was intended and believed to be the case whilst my dealer is stating the reality of Lexus failing to deliver on their intentions

Had the same problem as Gaazzared with the map update massage on my NX4050 since I took delivery in August 23. Just collected it from the dealer for the third time of trying to correct it and after having the vehicle two days, exactly the same, they don't seem to have a clue. I agree that if I am on the latest version, it should say so not produce an error message. I am now waiting a response from Lexus.

Map updates can only be done by a dealer. Updates via dealers are foc for 3 years.

Mine goes in on Thursday to have the latest maps installed, I’ll let you know how it goes

I had my maps updated last month at the dealer.  I'd had the same message on the screen stating "contact dealer" at the end of last year and had asked the dealer to update the maps when it was in for a service in January.  Unfortunately they failed to order in the correct part (assume a USB stick) so car had to be re-booked in 6 weeks later.  It took them 2 days to do it and they had to take the Battery off before the update would "take".   Previously at the start of 2023 it successfully updated itself over the air, all very annoying.

Hi, My car mapping has been updated by Lexus after 12 months of it failing to do so OTA. However this has now failed again and not updating. It is also an issue that Lexus UK as part of Toyota share the updates with the main group and are still having problems with the software. If you ring for help there is a delay of 21 days at present. (As of this morning). Best bet is with the dealer under warranty. Lexus Reading have been the best together with help from Customer Services at Lexus. Try customer Services at Lexus UK as this is a known and continuing issue.

Do you know what the date of the maps the dealer updated it to is?

There are no OTA map updates, despite what Lexus have said in the past or what some dealers may say now.

Map updates can be done by the dealer FOC if you require one.

All of the above from my (very good) dealership

I too got this message and the dealer was unable to assist but......... I found that the process was to log into your account on the Lexus web site, purchase the latest maps (FoC) and download them onto a USB stick (must be 32GB or less FAT). I was then able to update the maps by connecting the USB to the car's USB port. This was in May 2023. I've tried again since but there doesn't seem to be any further updates available to purchase from the Lexus web site.

Why pay for them?

Map updates are FOC for the first 3 years and should be done by the dealer. I don’t understand your point “dealer unable to assist” it is their responsibility to do the map updates when requested to do so for the first 3 years.
Dealer also provided FOC courtesy car for the day when they did mine. Maybe you need a showdown with your dealer?

I'm not sure it is the dealer's responsibility to update the maps although I do admit however that don't know that for sure. The cost was £0; so no money changed hands. In my experience the dealers don't seem to be quite on top of the technology in the NX yet. I also don't know whether this is still the process to follow. I updated in May 2023 and there don't seem to be any further updates available on the Lexus web site. My current map version is 12-22-45[2022-02-5] with Service Code 144B2M.

Dealer responsibility, according to mine, because the Lexus promised OTA map updates haven’t yet materialised

My NX450 has been into the garage on four occasions since I bought it in March 2023 and every time I've asked the dealer to update the car if any are available. I've been told every time that they'll come over when required but, as far as I know, I've not seen a single update since purchase.

Dealer is pulling the wool ver your eyes - OTA map updates don’t yet exist, they never did, only in the Lexus marketing spiel

My dealer told me last year after my cars annual service that I would get OTA updates several times a year. I couldn't find my map version when I had a quick look yesterday but I do wonder if there is a difference depending on which screen size is fitted. Mine is the smaller screen and it appears to use Tom Tom maps. Certainly some of the comments I've read about the satnav system dont accord with what I see on my screen.  My display doesn't show speed camera locations for example.
