Just picked up Top Gear magazine which has a supliment entitled "The 50 Worst Cars Of All Time".

Guess what? The Lexus SC430 is number 36 :o

I can't believe it!

What do you think?

Posted

Havnt see the magazine yet.............do they give a reason why its no. 36 on the worst list?

Posted

The original SC was generally regarded as a "blancmange on wheels" for the American market wasn't it?

I'd say the SC430 is expensive for what it is, but the 36th worst car of all time? I don't think so.

For starters you've got almost every car Renault and Vauxhall have ever made (ok a couple of exceptions), plus all the Fiats & Lancias that rusted before you got them out of the showroom, Morris Marinas & Itals, Maestros - Montegos - Metros, various Citroens that depreciate 50% a week, early Skodas, late Peugeots (is the 605 ugly or what?), Yugos.....

I loved Top Gear years ago, but the newer shows are just plain CRAP :yack:

Just loads of scarky bull sh*t, just running around in Spooorts carrrs, Clarksons just a big ***** the little guy is much better.

I try to watch it sometimes, but I have to hit the clicker after 5 mins. :yack: :yack:

The SC430 has received quite a few bad reviews in the UK and Topgear did slate it last year. I have to admit it is at least £10k overpriced and not really that good a drive, it's more of a status symbol.

I believe there would be a few Cayenne owners not happy about seeing their vehicle at # 18. Topgear liked the car once you were inside they just hated its looks

when i saw the sc430 in the list, it came as no surprise. That car's styling is a bit grim. Hopefully with the creation of lexus japan and with all the amazing new concepts weve seen recently, Lexus won't be on the list again!

Although Jeremy does seem to have it in for lexus!

thank goodness its just a Top Gear review and not one from a more serious official bod like j.d powers

what was wrong with the saab 9-3 viggen??

"Like some untamed Norse beast, the 225bhp is likely to dislocate your shoulder is it's eagerness to nail 258lbs/ft torque to the tarmac through it's front wheels. Add the kick in the back from the turbocharger and you're slithering all the way to the osteopaths. The suffering is compounded by near solid suspension, sending ridulous shudders into a body structure with the rigidity of a jelly fish"

Fair criticism or the moanings of a P**f?

A guy at work who owns a standard 9-3 took a viggen for a test drive. He couldn't believe how such a dangerous car could be allowed on the roads :o

Before I got the Lex, I took a 9-3 Aero out on a unaccompanied test drive, scary stuff..... ;) All that power going to the front wheels just don't feel right.
