Does anyone know the exact size of the fuel tank. google suggest it is 50 lt (13.2 gallons) but when the range is showing at 20miles left, I can only fill up 42lts. Do we have a small tank size here in the UK? Thanks

What does your owner’s handbook say?
According to my calculations 13.2 UK gallons is 60 Litres not 50

There's always some in reserve even when it says zero miles left - probably enough for another 30 miles or so - they are trying to make sure you never actually get stranded for running out of fuel.

I've got over 30 miles when it said zero left, and so my guess would be that 8its left is an uncounted reserve to help keep you out of trouble.

50L is correct. Zero range is nannying overprotetion that all car manufacturers are doing to make sure you don't run out.

With older cars it’s worth considering that not all the liquid in a tank may be fuel.  Over.time quite a lot of water can get into the tank.  This can happen through condensation or because it seeped into the fuel station tanks.

If the measured fluid volume includes, say, petrol floating on a layer of water, then the calculated mileage is going to come up short!

Eventually, metal tanks may rust internally.  With an old car it can be worth taking the opportunity to drain the tank occasionally to remove any water in it.
