Hi Guys, im really enjoying the forum for the SC. I am a new owner but not new to Lexus. Im loving my 2005 SC430. I have a couple of questions if i may.

1. The car was recently serviced by an independent non Lexus specialist (the last owner had this done). The CEL is on since the service and Battery disconnect switches it off but it returns after two start up cycles. The engine runs lovely and performs better than expected but does seem to hunt a little at tick over which eventually seems to clear when warm. Ive ordered a code reader so will check it out but im suspecting something to do with air sensor? Anything worth checking? The fuel cap has a small split in the seal is this likely to cause the CEL?

2. The front cup holder sticks down when closed and has to be prised open, it works ok when opened. Is this common and fixable.

3. The drivers door pops and cracks when opened is this a common?

4. I only have one key and finding a spare to be cut and programmed is proving difficult. The key i have only has 2 buttons (open and close) and no boot release. Im sure its non OEM. If i get a 3 button version programmed would that allow me to open the boot as well?

Thanks in advance for any replies and help have a great day.

Welcome to the SC forum.

As to 1. You need to retrieve any fault codes to point you in the right direction. The hunting may be due to an air or exhaust leak. As the seal on the fuel cap is now checked as part of the M.O.T. it would be worth replacing in any event.

2. I have not had a problem with mine. I would remove it and check the mechanism. It might need lubrication.

3. I would try spraying some grease on the hinges and check strap.

4. My key has 3 buttons and one of them opens the boot. I have read a post on this forum relating to suppliers and obtaining another key. A search should find it.

Hi Darren

Welcome to the SC Owners Club forum!

I have found the cup holder, ashtray mechanism and the radio flap button to all be a bit suspect and rough and very regular use takes its toll.

I had a problem with my radio flap button which turned out to be incredibly expensive to purchase new from Lexus. Unable to buy a second hand switch I found a full console on eBay for a reasonable price.

It proved useful that I cured my button problem, at the annual meet in June my friend from Conway cured his ashtray which would not stay closed and you would be welcome to the cup holder mechanism if you get up these parts!

It is straightforward and easy to replace!

Good luck, Anthony
