just thought I'd post this as it may be useful to others. had interesting chat with toyota parts guy today. went in to buy some oil to top up. asked him for the 0w20 he said "honestly you should use 5w30 in my car. because its high mileage and out of warranty. he said he puts 5w30 in all cars that come in for service out of warranty. he seemed very genuine, i told him service manager in lexus dealership told me to always use 0w20, this was when I first bought car in 2019. never got good vibe of that lexus lad, toyota guy said yeah they will always tell u that because of the price difference. il be going with toyota guys advice next oil service.

I believe you should continue to use 0W 20 as specified. This grade of oil is specified for economy (MPG). I have read on some forums of people reporting a reduction of up to 10% in MPG when using 5W 30 oil.

Apparently in newer Toyota hybrids (and some other manufacturers) they now specify 0W 16.

If you aren't experiencing high oil consumption I'd stick with 0W 20. No harm in moving to a quality 5W 30 oil and it may offer greater wear protection but as stated by David, you will see a decrease in economy.

The CT engine can suffer from carbon build up which will lead to oil consumption and cylinder wear. Using a quality oil can help this from happening.
