Just fitted new 'Main Dealer' front discs and pads to the LS430.

A trouble free job I've done many times before. But this time they have started squealing after about 15 miles, and they have kept on squealing when I brake gently at low speed.

I did notice the new pads were painted black, Part No 04465-50230. Previous pads I've had from the main dealer have been Blue.

Anybody had any similar problems?

When you say Main Dealer, do you mean a Lexus dealer?

Yes the discs and pads were from the local Lexus Main Dealer. I've always bought my brake parts from them. The original equipment parts have always been consistently good and worth paying the extra.

Watching this with interest, I did the same a while ago but I get squealing from the rear when gently braking in reverse.  Have lived with it but if there's anything obvious to check I'll have a look when I get round to doing other work on the car.  I think mine is mainly OSR.

I reused the shims and thought that might be the cause.  The pads have a chamfer on both edges so doubt it's that.

Sounds like the dealer is using different pads from a different supplier.
Also possible that they didn't apply any anti-squeal grease to the back of the pads.

Just because it's a Lexus dealer doesn't automatically mean that they are good. Expensive though.
The same applies to OEM parts. Sometimes aftermarket are just better.

I had my pads replaced last year at National Tyres & Autocare (now part of Halfords) and they did an excellent job and no squealing.

Solved The Problem

At the third attempt I managed to sort it out.

It was a silly mistake. Because the new pads were black, I had got the 'black anti squeal shims' mixed up. On one side I had put a stainless shim on each pad, but I had put two black shims on one side and none on the other.

Oops! All quiet now.

I'll have to triple check mine...

When I bought my car the seller told me that new front (aftermarket) pads had just been fitted, they lasted less than 15 000 miles.  The genuine lexus pads I installed have lasted over 40 000 miles and the braking is noticeably better than the old aftermarket pads.  I couldn't make out the brand when I removed them.

The lexus pads do have a very low grumble from the front when braking gently at very low speeds, I've read a few comments that owners have noticed the same on newer lexus pads.  Maybe a manufacturer/pad composition change?

Main dealer put in new rear discs and pads in May before I bought car last week... squeaking at low speed on braking. Any clues as to why this should be?
