These, along with other units like them, are very easy to install - they're just plug and play. All you do is to unplug a connector from the factory unit, plug it into the new one, and then plug in a harness from new to factory. It's basically a process of 'teeing in' the new unit between the car and the factory unit, so instead of wiring going from car > factory unit it now goes car > new unit > factory unit.

The most difficult process is getting the trim off and getting to the connectors in the first place, which is where YouTube comes in. No matter what you're doing, whether that be plumbing, painting, changing a water pump on the car, fitting a new laptop screen or whatever, someone will have done it before and uploaded a 'how-to' video to YouTube that you can follow.

That's the thing.... the installation may be straightforward but it's the panel and screw removal of the dashboard that i don't feel comfy with.
I may just stay comfy with the Lexus maps, which, if updated, work pretty well.

Totally know that feeling. A bit of a philosophical tangent but taking these risks are very rewarding. When I bought my car it came with a broken ac vent which I didn't notice at the time of the test drive. I couldn't live with it so i replaced it with a new one from a breaker. The job seemed scarier in my imagination than in reality. I realised I just needed to go slow and be organised. It felt so rewarding that i never stopped after that. It gave me the confidence to do a lot of other DIY just by educating myself on youtube. I did up my bathroom and fixed some plumbing which saved me quite a bit of money and i think i did as good or a better job than a tradesman as i took my time and did it over several days rather than squeezing it in a few hours to keep costs low. Like someone else correctly pointed out you will inevitably end up being more cautious and not taking short cuts you will do things the right way and hence the overall quality will be better. But yes there is always a chance of making mistakes but if you make mistakes on your own car i say that adds character but if a shop makes mistakes on your car after paying them thats unacceptable 😜. The way i see it its a car in the end and i will get rid of it in 5-6 years anyway so enjoy it and learn something new.

Totally understand though that different people have different appetite for risk.

I upgraded my 2013 3is F-Sport unit last week, did all the the work myself in a couple hours or so taking my sweet time over a weekend. This was way easier than it looked, especially once you know how to feed the harness through the tiny gap behind the screen lol.

Absolutely worth every penny, 10.25 inch widescreen with Android 13 wireless android auto | apple carplay, playstore apps etc.

Looks fantastic!

From the driver seat, do you lose view of the right edge side of the screen?

Anyone faced any durability issues of their aftermarket screens? Car screens get some pretty strong heat and direct sun, even in the UK at times, baking in the sun.

I am somewhat tempted to undertake this but I’d hate to be undoing this work in 12-24 months if the screen dies, putting the factory unit back in.

Looks great which one did you get? Hows the sound quality? Is there a noticeable dip? While originally i couldn't be bothered i am quite tempted to get one.
