The insurance is very expensive for the new young drivers. I pay around 500 euros comprehensive but I am 52 and over 30 years driving without any accident.

I have just got a quote for the Lexus of £450 that’s £170 more than the Mercedes but only renewed my insurance in March so will see what extra I have to pay.

I suppose the B class you had, had a smaller engine than the IS this mat explain some increase but probably not £ 170. As well the IS has a smaller engine than my GS. My suggestion is to get various quotes from different insurers when the time comes for renewal and see which one is the best one.

Last year I used Confused.com and found that Toyota insurance was top of the list for the best quote, which came up as£425. I went with them. This year they increased my renewal to £570. However, nowhere else could I find a better offer, unless I was prepared to have a black box fitted, in which case it would have been around £510. I’d rather pay a grand for insurance than have a black box fitted.

When I asked Toyota for the reason I was paying such a huge increase, way beyond inflation figures, the only answer they gave me was: insurance has risen everywhere. In other words, take it or leave it. I took it.

Interesting - I use confused.com for comparison and never had Toyota insurance pop up for me - unless they were lower down the list than when I stopped looking...!

went to test drive and collect today, very pleased just very few stone chips and a very light scratch offside rear wheel arch , wheels totally undamaged drives well but although I had stop start on my Mercedes I never used it so it’s odd when stopped in traffic or at lights no engine noise but will get used to it.

Yes £10 road tax but extra £106 for insurance so one out weighs the other.

Still  a lot cheaper than in Ireland. I would not complain.
