Hi All,

My AFS sensor light is flashing orange & my mechanic said the sensor + mount at the rear needs replacing.

I have seen quite a few on eBay although they appear to be from the earlier gen RX 400h. Did the 450h have a different part, or would a 400h part fit?

For example, the following appears to be compatible with both the 400h and 450h  -

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253475477667?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11051.m43.l1123&mkcid=26&ch=osgood&euid=6dfd73ee48d64cd295e487da10c2bb38&bu=44929396204&osub=-1~1&crd=20230702130017&segname=11051

would this work?

Thanks

I am having the AFS sensor replaced tomorrow by the dealer. I know I could have saved a lot if I had bought it on eBay but I wasn't sure about what to buy and eventually for peace of mind I have decided to go to the dealer.

how much are lexus charging?

I am in Ireland and I will pay 600 euros. I know it's a huge amount for such a small part but if I am not wrong about 300-350 is the labour only.

If you're so determined to throw your money away then you could at least throw some my way. This job can be one, or perhaps more, of three things:

  1. The actual sensor itself
  2. The control rods/ball joints
  3. The metal plate that the sensor bolts onto.

That's ridiculously WAY overpriced. You've seen how much the sensor itself costs on eBay (around 30 quid) here. You can also buy the control arms (just one example of many here at 20 quid) or you could even buy the full assembly for less than £100.

Job done for £100 and an hour of your time.

Even if you don't want to DIY just take it to a local garage (known and trusted by friends or family, colleagues etc) and they'll do the job for half the Lexus dealer price. There is absolutely nothing whatsoever about this job that is Lexus-specific and needs a Lexus dealer workshop to do it. This is bread and butter work for hundreds, even thousands, of good mechanics up and down the country.

You are right but my trusted mechanic told me to go to Lexus. I don't know if he did not want to do the job or if he was unable to do it. Anyway yes I could have looked around and try to find another garage but it would have taken me more time and not sure where to go for it. I know on eBay is a lot cheaper but was not sure about the compatibility with my car. After all It is outrageous what Lexus charges for labour and part, I could have probably looked around. I will try to do differently next time.

Definitely didn't want to do it. Even a hobby mechanic can have it done in about an hour.

Not exactly the same thing but this video will show you the gist of it and just how easy it is to do:

To the OP - yes, that part will be fine.
