This week we traded up our 2016 RX450h Premium to a 2020 RX450h Takumi.  All good so far, apart from the audible beep alarm if I exceed the speed limit - even slightly.  I am not suggesting anyone should drive over the speed limit, but does anyone know how to switch off the audible alarms?  The HUD changes the appearance of road sign symbols from white to red - I find that this is a sufficient reminder, whereas the beep is just annoying.

Having scoured the user manual, I can't find any section relating to these notifications.

Any advice would be most welcome, thanks.

Thank you both -😀 found it!  I'm sure it will be fine when we drive it later - will report back if not.

If the car picks up a speed sign in error I'd like to be able to manually cancel it, rather than listening to beep, beep, beep ,beep for the next minute or so.

This can be annoying, as when it detects a 20 mph zone it will stay there until it "sees" another sign. They do not put 30mph signs after a 20mph zone.

The sign recognition is pretty poor, many signs get missed and sometimes speed signage on the back of an HGV gets misread as a speed limit.

I posted something similar regarding the accuracy of the speed limit warning. Seems the car's GPS/maps overides the camera recognition?

I have the pre-facelift Gen 4 RX, I believe that uses signage / camera only and not any map data.

I too have a pre-facelift 4RX. I also believe this to be true, but sometimes the nav will revert to the national speed limit sign when a speed limit has been displayed and then passed, e.g. temporary speed restriction signs on motorways.

Re the beeping notification when exceeding speed limit - Do you have to change the setting to 'Off' or 'Visual Only' every time you start the car ? As our new UX300h is defaulting back to beeping every time we turn car on. Tnx.

No.  You change it in settings once and it should remain visual only when you next start the car.  At least that what it does in mine.

Ah well not doing that in ours unfortunately, will feed that back to Lexus when they call to ask how we are getting on with it.

If your car is 23/24 chances are it’ll default to full EU nanny beeping on every trip. Older stuff can be switched off permanently - sadly 2024 EU rules don’t allow that.
