I am so sorry to hear that, I trust you have good insurance. I installed a kill switch on one of my cars.

Not mine, just thought I would share.

Forewarned is forearmed etc

The LC is such a rare car that I wonder why a thief would steal one as it would be very conspicuous. A hybrid as well so a very specific car.

I assume a steal to order job going overseas but RHD limits the "market".

I always have mine in the garage overnight and not on the drive.

I suspect there may be a market for body panels etc - especially any of the carbon or CRFP components.

Sure I read somewhere that a boot lid alone is well into five figures new?

Hmm that's not good. Kill switch or Ghost is the answer but by that time the bumper's been ripped to bits.

The RX450 is in the top ten of most nicked cars. I've read that Lexus are introducing a retro fit steel plate to cover the canbus in the wheelarch - I wonder if it'd fit the LC...

All that will do is add time to the theft, not make it impossible.

They need to do some software changes and get those pushed out as a recall ASAP.

Physical security is still the best deterrent, don't make yourself an easier target than the person up the road.

If they want it, they will take it, even with a steering wheel lock on.

Very strange. Just can't see how easy it would be distribute the parts......

I got a bit confused with this because I found yesterdays post from Howard on facebook just saying it had been taken without keys but having reread the one linked to by Brett it does state the bumper was removed. Damn.

Re software changes there's no chance - it would cost millions to improve it and get it all approved from what I've read on the RX section.

Ghost/steering lock/kill switch.

Bastards.

I've contacted Lexus UK and asked what they intend to do about it...

Good idea! I've just contacted my dealer. My Lexus dealer...

Some really poor input validation controls in place; as usual the architecure/design has security as an after thought - not even a nod to SDLC.

I've worked in security for a very long time now and can think of no other industry where this ***** poor approach would be allowed to go live.

Radio silence so far, only the automated reply.

Dealers said they’d not been told anything before I asked so they’ll enquire with Lexus.

I asked the guy who fitted my tracker if a ghost immobiliser would stop canbus injection theft and he confirmed yes a ghost would prevent it, but by that point your bumper and headlight are in bits…

That's one reason I didn't go with Ghost & picked an alarm / immobiliser upgrade instead, as soon as the thieves tamper with the wheel arch / bumper the alarm will warn them away & if they continue it will fully trigger.

If someone starts on my wing/wheel arch I will fully trigger! 🤪🤬

One of my biggest worries about sonic red / infrared paint was in the event of a respray the match would very difficult to achieve. I think it’s a 7 stage paint coat.

Assuming someone starts stripping parts to get to the internals, I’m guessing there is significant damage? Whether they succeeded on taking it or not.

Unless they are considerate thieves, gently stripping parts and laying them on a carpet, organising the bolts and clips….I would rather it be taken and never seen again! Ideally without any important stuff in the boot!

Dear Mr Eightk

Thank you for your email regarding your Lexus LC CV Sport Plus Pack.

I am sorry for our delay in response to your email, which expresses genuine concern for the security of your vehicle. We are sorry to hear of your concerns and appreciate your email with us.

I must confirm that we do not have any internal information on any Lexus LC thefts using the CANBUS attacks you mention or any other method, to be clear.

We are certainly aware of the growing trend of vehicle theft across the industry and understand your cause for concern.

Lexus have been developing a prototype protective plate that can be installed into the Lexus RX to help prevent against this new type of attack on vehicles.

At this moment in time, we do not have any dedicated development towards the LC directly in alignment with the protective plate you mention for the RX. We are certainly conscious of the concern around our other models, and can assure you that we are considering different options for our other models.

If you have any questions at all please do feel very welcome to let me know, my team and I would be happy to discuss this further with you in any detail.

Received the above five minutes ago. I have posted on an RX450 theft thread a few times too.. what’s being said on there is something like a Ghost won’t stop canbus theft.
I’m therefore looking at Cat 2 immobilisers - visible flashy LED on the dash plus a touch key to get the car started. My tracker has a relay to stop the car starting already but there’s no visible signs it’s been fitted - an extra dash LED from the cat 2 should achieve that visibility. Bastards 😂
