Hi all

Got a GS450h 2018 as anyone had any success with the voice control mine is limited to,  play Song ,Play Artist. Dial Number and thats about it but most of time(must be my Yorkshire accent ) does not understand me at all.

My previous Mk 3 could do allsorts Radio,CD, Increase Heating Lower Heating Navigate to ??? but this one is very limited.

I know the latest ones are ok as i had a NX Loner on my last service and was like my earlier car.

Can the software be updated or does is it need to be initiated as i cannot find any thing in the online manual except Voice training but i do not have that option on car

Thanks

Woud it be fair to assume no one uses the Voice activated system I must admit its not the best in the Car Industry

No one uses it because it's rubbish.

Me: Call Caz home

Lexus: Dialling 590....

Me: Dial Caz home

Lexus: Dialling bank...0999 999665

Me: Aarrgghh!!!!

Me: Navigate to M33 4HX

Lexus: Sorry, I don't understand

Me: Navigate to M33 4HX

Lexus: Navigating to NB7 3SY

Me: Ah *****, I give up!!!!!

I got a Grom Vline2 and use Android Auto with Waze for navigation now....

Me: Open Waze

<Waze opens immediately and effortlessly>

Me: Navigate to M33 4HX

Waze: OK, M33 4HX, let's go...and off we go, just as simple as that!

Me: Dial Caz home

Android Auto: Dialling Caz home

Me: Open Planet Rock (this is a classic rock radio station available via DAB or the Planet Rock app - AA uses the app)

Android Auto: Opening Planet Rock.

The Grom Vline2 isn't cheap but it makes the Lexus infotainment/navigation into what it should have been in the first place but failed miserably.

Well I had a couple of attempts that ended up like a Monty Python script, so gave up.   But to be fair, I had the same result with my previous Honda Accord.

So either one has to persevere - or it’s Japanese sense of humour.

Herbie

Do you find the mouse touchpad  a bit hit and miss as i was told that it can be a bit skitty but mine is the joystick and was looking at getting one of those vlines but was put off by the cost

My RX has a joystick which, given that I'm right-handed, is bloody awful to use.

However, I got one of these to use with the Vline and it works brilliantly.

There's no denying that the Grom Vline is both expensive and also very frustrating and it'll have you pulling your hair out, but perseverence does pay off. You could look at a Lexion system as I've heard good things about them, but they seem to be more expensive still.

Bottom line - expensive as these things are, it's worth paying it. We shouldn't have to do it and it's a shame that a luxury brand such as Lexus makes it necessary to invest in these third-party solutions, but such a difference over the OEM system makes it worthwhile in the end.

I still occasionally use Voice Command for Navigation, getting an estimated 60% first-time success rate with my commands.  This is far from satisfactory but an improvement over earlier versions of the system, which were a total disaster.   For some unknown reason, and after long periods of perseverance, I have managed a slightly higher success rate with Music commands, though I am currently back to working the touchpad after repeatedly getting Little Richard Greatest Hits upon asking for Glenn Gould Goldberg Variations, which is something I would hitherto have thought phonetically impossible.
