In the recent hot weather, whilst using my Iphone for apple Car Play and leaving the phone on the charging pad, it suddenly stopped working (the phone) with a warning message that the phone is overheating and will not work until it is cooler.  I was using Car Play for my sat nav and consequently lost that at the same time.  Has anyone else encountered this problem as I can see it happening again if the summer weather continues!

I haven’t had this issue just yet, but I have noticed how hot my Iphone 14 is getting compared to my old 12 both in the car and on my desk wireless charger

vehicle charing pads are problematic as they are designed to be generic and therefore the coils rarely line up with the phone which leads to excess heat.

I have this issue on my car.  If I use Android Auto at the same time as using the charging pad, my phone will overheat.

Not sure about the ES, but on my Kia someone told me that the air for the rear heating vents run below the pad and if I turned it to cold, the pad wouldn't heat up so much.  Haven't had a chance to try it yet but it is certainly plausible.

Also had an issue, Carplay was playing but the phone wasn't charging. Once the A/C was switched and the interior had cooled. Everything was back to normal.

On the charging pad there is a button which switches the charging bit off. So the phone can sit there and connect the apple car play to the system.
The front USB socket for the apple car play interface also charges the phone.

if you decide you can place the phone in the phone pocket where the usb socket is and use a short lead to the usb connection ….

We use the phone only to listen to music while driving (now and then also receiving a call or 2), but wonder why it should be needed to charge the phone. The phone we have has power enough to last quite a lot of hours (more than 12) without needing being charged. Never used charging pads, see no reason, actually believe that a lot of energy is wasted that way. Only our Braun toothbrushes are charged without directly being connected by wire.

Might go back to this myself if I have a problem, I still have the mini cable in the car from my 21 model that didn’t have the wireless apple

I am now keeping the phone in the phone pocket when it is hot and all seems to be well. Using the phone for the sat nav does seem to drain a lot of Battery - almost gone after 5 hours of driving so may need to connect via USB cable if I'm on a long drive.

I've never tried charging the rechargeable Toothbrushes that way John, how do you stop then falling over when you go round a bend?🤣
