I have a 2012 rx450h and I am fitting a tow bar this weekend.  I need to disconnect the Battery while I attach the wiring kit.  Are there any steps I should take before disconnecting the Battery?

Whenever I've had to disconnect the 12v Battery, I've ensured that I connect an alternative 12v supply to the + and - cables, and thus avoid losing some of the cabin settings.

In the past, I've used a friend's 12v Battery, but I then bought a noco Genius, which plugs into the OBD connector, and provides power to the ECU that way. (or simply connect it in the boot space to the + and - cables BEFORE you remove them from your vehicle Battery.   (https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=noco+genius&crid=18WLU430YSK29&sprefix=noco%2Caps%2C837&ref=nb_sb_ss_ts-doa-p_5_4)

Maybe you could just remove the fuses for the lighting circuits to avoid any issues that require a reset.

Sound to me like a good idea.

I also used a spare Battery when I did a Battery change over as I was a bit concerned about losing settings.  However, when I needed to disconnect for another reason I just did so aaccepting I would need to reset some things.  From memory this radio programme resets, windows and rear hatch, all pretty easy with instructions found on line.  One thing I would suggest if this method is used is to ensure the Battery is well charged up before it is reconnected.  It might allow faults to occur if Battery is refitted where voltage has fallen excessively.
