Hi all,

I am onto my 5th Lexus and only just become a member so hi all.

My wife has a Gen4 GS250 and the boot doesnt pop fully open anymore, I can see that they use a torsion bar mech to actuate the boot opening and mine seams to have failed. Has anyone else had this issue and could share some tips/ experience when it comes to replacement?

Hi David and welcome to the LOC.

Not sure if this applies to your model but most have some adjustment to the tension by way of changing which slot the bars ends go into ( choice of 3 positions)

Ah thats interesting, is this adjustment available at the hook end. i.e. behind the carpet in the boot? or is it available on the bracketry visible on the celling of the boot? I wonder if this is in the owners manual.

I got my head in the boot last night and the torsion rods are all in place and are not damaged in any way.  i didnt see any adjustment on them to increase the tension though.  This is my second 4th Gen GS having had a GS450h before trading it in for my RCF, but i am sure my old GS' boot used to pop open. can anyone on here confirm that the Gen 4 GS' boot pops its self open on release? I am stumped to why its not doing it anymore unless the torsion rods loos strength over time?

Yes - the boot lid should open fully if you touch either the button on the dash or the button just above the rear number plate.

Erm I have a gen 4 gs 450h when I bought the car was surprised the boot didn’t fully open with remote or internal boot button just opens a little and does not fully pop open my cars seen a private mecanic and been with in and out of a Lexus main dealer last two years and no one’s mentioned it to me as an issue so I assumed it was normal. Even though my previous five years older gen 7 2007 Audi a4 boot did fully pop open 😅
