Rear Tailgate

My UX was serviced yesterday at Lexus Glasgow. I mentioned a strut on the rear tailgate was creaking especially during warm weather. I was later informed the O/S strut was faulty and would be replaced under the Lexus Relax Warranty. 
 

I was shocked however at the cost of the supply and replacement of the faulty part (see attached).

Are they being serious? Is that the genuine cost of replacing a strut?

That is ridiculous.

Seems high - the list price in the US seems to be $500. GBP pricing is normally a little more but shouldn't be nearly double plus £100 to fit.

That’s a transfer cost from the dealer to Lexus.  It doesn’t always stack up with the real cost.

Had the service and first Mot. No issues on the Mot as expected really. Regarding the alarm it hasn't gone off since they checked and said everything ok, so it must have been a bug/spider etc. of some description. Regarding the rear tailgate they found no problem. I said it definitely is worse in the hot periods.
