Hi, I haven’t been here for a long time, but I need to point out an issue arising from the spread of ULEZ zones to other cities. I recently tried to sell my wife’s 55 plate GS300 SE. I checked the registration with Transport London and as expected it is said to be ULEZ compliant. However, I then checked with Transport Scotland as ULEZ zones are about to be introduced there - and it says that it is NOT compliant! Also, I had a keen buyer from Bristol and when he checked with gov.uk website, Bristol (and Birmingham) would want to charge for entering their ULEZ zones!
This is crazy, because the V5 for our Lexus clearly shows that the emissions are CO: 0.17g/km, HC: 0.050g/km and NOx: 0.020g/km. These are well below the Euro4 standards.
My first thought was that Transport London has the correct info in its database, but some cities are simply checking the date of registration and if it is before 1 Jan 2006 they automatically say not compliant. BUT, how then is it possible for the gov.uk website check to show that there would be no charge in Bath, Bradford, Greater Manchester, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Tyneside, but there would be in Bristol and Birmingham? Are some cities allowed to have better standards than others?
Any thoughts?

you really mean " different standards "  ............... perhaps, if you're an AA or RAC Member you could seek the views of their legal teams 🤫

Dear xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We appreciate you contacting us to seek clarification on the matter. I apologise that your enquiry was not answered fully in previous responses.

Having looked into your enquiry further, I have requested for your vehicle record to be updated to reflect that the vehicle meets the Clean Air Zones emissions standards and is not subject to Clean Air Zone charges.

This will be updated within 2 working days. Please check back on the Vehicle Checker before your next journey into or within a Clean Air Zone.

Please be aware, if you intend to drive into or within a live Clean Air Zone before this has been updated, you will still need to pay for the journey. Local Authorities are responsible for all charging orders and refunds, if you have received a PCN, you should follow the instructions on the letter to complete a representation and use our email response as evidence of compliance.

If you have already paid a charge you will need to contact the Local Authority and ask for a refund.

If you change your Vehicle Registration Number in the future, you will need to notify the Drive in a clean air zone service to have your vehicle record updated.

For clarification, the Euro standards for all Clean Air Zones are Euro 4 for Petrol and Euro 6 for Diesel vehicles. Please note, Bradford has slightly stricter measures in place for Private Hire Vehicles.

Some vehicles may be identified as being early adopters of the Euro Standard before they became mandatory.

I hope this information is of assistance to you and answers your enquiry.
