Can power taligate be retrofitted?

Good morning everyone! Took delivery of a used '22 UX and just found out that the tailgate (boot door) is not powered. The car was bought online without seeing it first. Missus likes this feature a lot on our NX when going shopping as she can open the tailgate with a keyfob when approaching the car with her hands full. Sadly, the keyfob has no button for opening a tailgate and there are no buttons on the tailgate as well. Has anybody tried retrofitting this feature? How much pain are we looking at? Cheers

I think the process, if possible, would be very expensive and not worth the trouble. Did you buy the UX from a Lexus dealer? Cazoo? Cinch?

Moral of your story is to check the specification carefully. Personally I would never buy a car unseen.

You could retrofit it but a bit tedious process. And not worth it. Will not fall under warranty as well.

Anything can be retrofitted if you can source the parts and code it in. However, retrofitting power tailgates (to any car, not just Lexus) involves quite a few parts that are different to the non-powered version plus a lot of dismantling and reassembly of the car. What that actual cost would be for your car... One way to work it out is to do a side by side comparison of the EPC to work out which parts are different, you can get the parts costs from a lexus parts desk or your online auction site of choice. Once you add in a couple of days labour for retrofit you may find it more cost effective to trade in against a car with power tailgate from the factory.
