Has anyone had their ABS pump replaced? Did you do it yourself?

I'd like to do it myself but the one thing that puts me off is removing the brake hydraulic lines from the body and brake fluid spewing everywhere.

Why do I want to replace mine? Look below. Corrosion due to water ingress and giving me the dreaded VCS and ABS dash lights with codes c0274 and c0273.

There's a few used ones on eBay but it's only the bit where the multiplug socket is. No amount of cleaning as best as one could clears the fault plus a couple ofvthe connector pins are bent and I think one missing.

So if I remove the hydraulic lines will I lose a lot of fluid? I know a full brake system bleed would need to be done but being on my own I'm thinking that'll be a tall order.

Might those terminals clean up?

If it's anything like the Mercedes SBC system it will need Techstream to perform the depressurisation and bleeding of the system.

Hi Peter. The plug cleaned up really well. However the socket pins are shot I think and can't be cleaned properly hence the need of replacing.

As for depressurisation and bleeding. I've watched a few YouTube videos about ABS pump replacing and none mentioned about pressure in the system. They just undid the hydraulic pipes normally.

My thought now is to get a used unit and find a garage to do the fitting.

Sorry, Vladimir I was assuming the car had the electrically pressurised system (from the hybrid) but I guess yours will be simply a vacuum applied system.

That all said I personally would get the professionals to replace such a vital safety component
