The grille on my IS is stained (see pics). This is the smoky chrome finish surround.

It isn't corrosion or pitted, but even after a good clean (wash mit and ValetPRO Advanced Poseidon Car Wash) the marks remain. What would be the best product/method to clean this in people's experience?

Maybe you could try a dedicated chrome cleaner....autosol comes to mind ...or give it a go with WD40 first.

To me, this looks like mineral deposits built up from the water used to wash the car; tap water or a jet wash maybe?. Depends on your water supply of course, but of choice, I prefer to wash and rinse with rainwater from water butts.

You could try a mild limescale remover such as white vinegar, or a diluted commercial product (well rinsed afterwards).

I have had good results with Mothers Mag & Aluminium polish.

Great for polishing headlights too.

Small tub approx £10.

That's staining. It's typical of cars being through hand car washes at the local Romanian place or too strong diluted tfr

Just to follow up on this. I used Autosol Chrome-plated Polish . I think it was just stubborn dirty which didn't come off with a wash mitt, but I only really focussed on the stained areas (as I didn't want to damage the finish) and it came up lovely.
