Fooled by my dealer?

Bought my car last year in april. Breaking noises since may/june (this year). Contact my dealer last week. They checked my car and said the front brake pads have to be replaced. Job was done on Tuesday. They told me the pads were completely worn out (after only one year?!? :?: ).

Just to let you know: A friend of mine wanted to buy a Toyota RAV-4. End of the last month I took him to my dealer. My friend signed the contract on the same day! Of course my dealer was happy that he sold another car and said he appreciates that I brought him a client. Also mentioned something like he will do me a favor.

Now here is the point. On Tuesday he charged me the full price (185 Euro) for the brake pads job!!! What the ****?!?! :flaming:

I think I've been fooled!!!! Big time!!! :flaming:

What do you think?

Just to pick up on a point you make about the noise from breaking - not being in anyway a mechanic I read the manual of my IS200 to see what indicators I would get to warn me of my break pads needing replacing (other than not being able to stop anymore ). Found it mildy amusing to read that "..a loud noise can be heard from the breaks...". I was expecting some sophisticated early warning rather than waiting for the metal on metal screeching noise telling me that I've left it too late and I need to replace the discs as well !!! (or am I being unfair and it actually is a sophisticated 'noise inducing' layer on the pads themselves ?

On the favour front - I see what you mean but they didn't specify what the favour would involve. :sniff:

I think the "warning noise" is a loud clicking when you apply the brakes - pretty crude but not as bad as the backplates against the discs!!!

How many miles did you do in that year Leexus?

you will hear a loud screetching type sound as on the inside of the pad is a little tang from the pad springs- this will touch the disc first and you will still have about 2- 3 mm of pad material left so no changing of discs involved - you do get the electric type of indicator but they are crap to be honest.

the clicking is the pads moving ever so slightly with in the caliper - just re grease the pad ends and it stops.
