I was wondering if the boot was meant to jerk closed like the video shows or whether these struts need replacing for smoother movement?

Thank you!

I just changed my struts, it stopped this. Got them off amazon £49 took 12 days to come as it seems they were sent from California.

It wouldn't bother me to the extent that it would be high on my list of priorities, although that offside strut looks to have cracks in it.

Looking at your other threads, its seems that there are few things coming to the surface that likely prompted the previous owner to sell rather than address. That being the case, the first thing I'd do is get the corrosion looked at fully to see the extent of it, and how much it will take to clean, patch up where necessary, and then treat. I wouldn't be looking to spend any money on other fixes/mods until I was sure that could be dealt with at a reasonable cost first.

I imagine it's probably because the rubber parts at the ends of the struts are failing and allowing the chrome bits to get out of alignment at that angle.  So instead of pushing in straight, they're pushing in at a very slight angle where there's too much friction.  Lubrication isn't recommended on struts as it stops them holding things open, so if it bothers you, replace them.  There's nothing special about them, plenty of strut sellers online who can help.
