After much deliberation I finally got round to fitting the mud flaps. Quite an easy job. I was concerned about possible increased aerodynamic noise, as unlike most people on here I don't find the ES a particularly quiet car, but they haven't increased the noise at all.

Nice one  did you put PPF (Clear paint protection film) under the Mudguard  where the guard meets the paint?

Reading online water/dirt can get trapped causing corrosion and the guard can rub against the paint long term causing rust bubbles.

I still haven't put Betsy's mud flaps on. Might not bother now!

There are more Pros to having them fitted than not. I am also debating with myself for installing them on the IS but just dont like the apperance when they sit proudly. 

We have a 2nd car with them already fitted & let me assure you having them fitted especially during thr winter months is noticeable. The road salt & grime does not seem to build up so quickly keeping the side windows & the side skirts cleaner slightly longer, & not to mention the splash back at the bottom of the rear bumper it really does take a while for the Muck to build up. Also the added benefit of reducing any new paint chips developing from stones flicking at the door/wings over time, is the primary reason which will result in rust spots if untreated regardless. 

I guess the key is to protect the paint if you chose to fit PPF before installing the Guards or if your really bothered every 6-12 months remove the front ones, clean/inspect & refit them but thats just an inconvenience ideally you want to fit them & forget about it. 

Rear guards are mounted on the bumper so no corrosion to worry about.

Had mine fitted for over 10000 miles now, no problems, as has been stated no metal contact for the rears and they aren’t really big and very stiff so not worried about the fronts, advantages outweigh any negatives

My Mondeo had front OEM fitted did over 200k miles on them no problems with paint damage when inspecting every few years. Comes down to how flexible they are and the amount of contact with the body really. Lexus should offer OEM mud flaps for the ES

Do you think they will be priced competitively against the ones I bought, less than £16 for the set…….I think I know the answer 😂

I'm in two minds now. 

I've got some 3M protective film which I bought after some scroat tried to break into my IS300h. I was going to try to cut a section out to put behind the door handles to stop scratches but never bothered. This could be the ideal use for it.

It's a little hard to see from the photos but the flaps are not hard up against the paintwork. I doubt they will damage the paintwork by rubbing but l could see dirt getting behind them. Yer pays yer money as they say.
