Hello!

I recently got my 2016 rc300h and I'm curious why I can't rev it.

It's because of the ev mode or it's other explanation?

I'm not sure what you mean by not revving.Perhaps you've accidently switched it into EV mode. That will give you a green EV light on the dash.To turn it off, press the EV button (by the circular driving mode knob).

By revving I mean when the car is when I'm in neutral or park and I hit the gas.

Because it's a hybrid - the ICE can't be revved when in P or N. I assume to protect the hybrid / electric motor parts of the drive train. IIRC there is a maintenence mode the car can be out into (probably need Techstream) so the ICE can be both kept running and at raised revs.

It's been few years since I been in RC300h, but I don't remember being bale to rev it... I think the revs may go up-to 1.5-2k but that is about it. I think mostly as Phil said to protect the system as it is CVT transmission and there is no reason to ever rev it e.g. you can't brake-boost it like automatic.

When driving you can change the fake ratios to increase decrease revs, but even then it is hard to get it above 4k rpm.

If it's anything like the RX, then maintenance mode can be set by pushing a few buttons in the right sequence, can't remember what but no techstream required. Once in that then the ICE will idle constantly. Be advised though, car should not be driven in maintenance mode. To revert back to normal just switch off and back on again.

I tried to rev mine whilst in neutral..no it doesn't.As above really,it must be a hybrid thing. Also, why bother revving it anyway-it doesn't sound good. You will need 5/6/8/ or preferably 10 or 12 cylinders to get a decent sound from a modern engine.(Yes,I do remember twin cam Escorts and Alfas).
