I have owned this 2001 LS430 for a year. Have been using with new Battery a month old without issues. The ignition switch has been wonky since purchase and now does not turn: it will not turn from ‘lock’ to ‘acc’ either on key or smart access. The steering lock is now on as well. AA patrolman tried to help with no luck. Code reader needs ‘acc’ on to function. Have replaced new Battery in keyfob. Other keyfob not turning either. The alarm light is off when key inserted, the steering wheel moves out but that is all. Any suggestions gratefully received...

So it's a mechanical issue and you've ignored it for a year, so it's now got worse.

Only two things as far as I can see - dismantle and fix existing ignition switch or buy a new one.

Try loading up the steering wheel in one direction or the other whilst trying to turn the key. Sometimes it does take a firm tug on the wheel to allow the steering lock to release.
The Battery in the key is for the remote buttons (and SmartKey functionality on later LSes), not for the Immobiliser which works on a proximity basis and has no need for a Battery.
If the steering lock mechanism is worn, it can get jammed so when you manage to get it free, you will still need to get it looked at.

Thank you Herbs and George for your comments and advice.  Have tried your method George without success, as did the AA.  Have ordered replacement ignition switch. Will update next week.

Update.  Have changed ignition switch, but the fault it appears is with the steering lock ... and it is a sealed unit which will cost £2000+ for Lexus to replace.  Car is in a tight space, cannot be lifted or moved so I'm stuffed for the moment.

The steering lock is activated by a separate solenoid known to seize up due to hardened grease and fluff build up, has this been checked?

I know it's a bit late to reply but have you checked the gear leaver is in Park?

My ignition switch occasionally refuses to turn off or on if the lever is not firmly in Park.
