Insurance Repair!

Good evening all

Hope you are all well & keeping warm

After a bit of advise, my car was rear ended just before Xmas minimal damage to bumper, chrome trim & reinforcer bar.

It's a 19 plate vehicle & the repairer is struggling to obtain the chrome protector trim, offering me a black plastic one or one with different a pattern.

I then found that he wasn't using a Lexus dealer for the parts, but a company called Trade Parts Express - I believe this company is sourcing spurious parts, hence the struggle for obtain the correct trim

Am I within my rights to request my vehicle is repaired using genuine Lexus parts?

TIA

I,m not certain, but I would think you have the upper hand as you've been rear ended so the other party is at I've been rear ended twice and used Accident Management companies who will provide you with an equivalent quality car whilst yours is off the road.

In both cases I insisted that Lexus and Porsche body shops were used. That means proper parts are used, all done to Lexus standards and they properly check all the car's systems including the hybrid system are checked. Otherwise, you may face warranty problems down the line.

You are entitled to get the car back in the same condition as it was before the accident. I think insurance companies do have some T&Cs saying they can use equivalent parts, but swapping a chrome for a black trim can't be said to fall within that. Maybe get them to order the part and take it back to be fitted when they get it in?

I don't think you can demand genuine parts. Best way to go about it is use a Lexus approved bodyshop and pay the extra excess if needed so you know they'll use genuine parts

I was rear ended last year. I insisted that a Lexus garage should carry out the repair as it is not only the parts but the complicated spray process and  paint they use. The insurance company were fine with it but insisted that their technician look at the car and the garage’s estimate before the repairs were carried out. This was in France so British insurances may differ.

Having spoken with my supplying Lexus Dealer and realising that Auxilis (a national all makes repair body shop) repair the cars, I have spoken with Craig Allen at Lexus.

There doesnt seem to be a Lexus dealer with their own bodyshop

If you are fairly close to Bracknell, then try Jemca Body shop. They are attached to the local Toyota dealership and are Lexus approved. The did an excellent repair to my RC last year and the paint match to the Sonic Red was superb.Jemca have A Few Lexus dealers in the group

Agreed - Jemca bodyshop in Bracknell repaired my Lexus IS 300h - it was an involved repair after I hit a lorry tyre that was on the motorway - did a great job and can't tell it has ever been repaired. I use Lexus Reading for servicing which is Jemca owned and also Toyota Reading next door, which is also Jemca owned, for my wife's Yaris.

Often dealerships simply do not deal with bodywork facilities. They rely on other specialised garages for it.
If anyone is in Kent/Medway, I know an excellent bodywork garage where they do things really well.

I don't mind if dealer does it. because responsibility for repair is dealers then, not someone elses.

Hi all

just an update on my issue, I agreed & had the repairs carried out by claims companies repairer, who made an absolute balls of the job.

New bumper, was dropped after painting & damaged on the corner, by the rear quarter

Rear Chrome trim on bumper fitted incorrectly

mud flaps, re-fitted incorrectly & unable to rectify - suggested tiger seal/ or silicone

obviously I rejected repairs & had the the issues, inspected by Lexus bodyshop & original engineer who inspected the damage & both confirmed my issues.

Requires new bumper, chrome trim & a set of mud flaps

After a lot of arguing about the costs, they have eventually agreed to have the works completed at Lexus bodyshop.

Hello Mr - would you be so kind to drop me the name of that garage. I am looking at a substantial repair to the front left of the car, and the last thing I want is a headache from a poor job. Is it Kaizer Motor you mentioned in another thread? Thank you!

If you are in Hampshire then you might be interested to know that Jemca (Lexus and Toyota) have their own bodyshop at Jemca Bracknell. I had quite a bit of damage on my Lexus repaired there a nunber of years ago and was very pleased with the outcome - would never know the repair had been done. That was done on insurance so not sure if you are paying personally or it's insurance you are claiming on.

Thanks, it's good to have options. I don't have a quote from a Toyota-approved bodyshop yet, so in case they are cost-prohibitive, chances are I'll try your recommendation. The car is driveable.
