Denso Parking Sensor Control Unit and 430 Water Leaks

Happy New Year to all members.

Firstly due to leak at the RHS in my 430/2000 model boot my Toyota Denso parking sensor control unit has died.It apparently was fitted to 4 Toyota cars  models but the part is no longer available (part no188100-2260).There is one available on eBay but doesn’t look in good condition.Has any member any contacts where I may obtain a used or new original reversing sensor control unit?

Regarding the water leak on both lower sections to the boot (under those bucket like containers) I watched a Utube  video how to remove the rear light clusters and then cleaned out the Chanel’s behind so I am now waiting for the usual Lake District weather to arrive to test my efforts! I have also removed the rubber grommets in these lower sections so that any further ingress can freely drain away.Any further helpful suggestions welcome.

I thought I had solved water ingress in the drivers footwell but sadly not.I am going to remove the window wipers and plastic drain grill underneath and investigate further.Again any helpful suggestions appreciated.

I am slowly but surely getting the car back to where it needs to be and have had a new cam-belt kit fitted including water pump,upper front ns/ball joint,next on the list will be the exhaust system that members recommended using the specialist in Leeds.

My wife is fed up with me talking about the Lexus but actually we both love it,it was to be my Sunday car but I want to use it all the time!

Good to hear from you, and a happy new year! 

Ah water ingress, it still makes me cringe despite it being many years since I was in the motortrade. They can be very difficult to find their entry place and sometimes even harder to fix them!

My water ingress is in the ns of the boot lid aperture below the rear screen. I have thought it was cured more than once but when we have a severe rain storm it seems to start again.

I will cure it one day which will stop me having to check her nervously after rain. We get plenty down here too!

Good luck and keep us informed. I am considering returning to Tony Banks Exhausts to have my single chrome tailpipes replaced with double ones each side. It would look a beast then!

I’m interested in how to turn the volume down on my sensors’ beeps. It’s far louder than necessary and more than a little annoying.

Hi Perry,Will give them a ring thanks.

You can turn the volume down if it is the same Denso unit fitted.On the little black box is a sticker highlighting where the volume control is.Open the box carefully by removing the two plastic clips but first unplug the unit from the wiring loom.This is easy it is the large white rectangular plug and socket.

When looking at the printed circuit board with the white socket at twelve o clock the volume control is at 11 o clock,you will need a small screw driver.Hope this helps.G.

The body-shop did a very neat job on that red one.  

I'm fully in favour but your reputation will be in tatters parked next to me in the modified 'no taste' section. 🤣

Hi Graham

I have been wracking my brains about your original question and realised that when I worked in Bradford for Lexus we used the Denso factory to help us with problems and sourcing items. It is in Shipley on the outskirts of Bradford. They were always very helpful and me be the answer to your problem.

The red 430 with 4 tail pipes certainly matches the ummphhhh of the engine.Is the supporting body work conversion available????.

Have checked the breakers yards with no luck,however I have bought the used sensor control unit from eBay for 13 pounds so worth the gamble.Anthony thanks for the additional information regarding Denso Factory will also check this out,many thanks to you all.

I’ve had two SC430’s in the past and both leaking water into the front footwells !

      I also went down the route of removing wipers and plastic panel but not much inside to cause a leak.

     I solved the problem by running a bead of RTV sealer along the header rail and rubber trim (make sure you clean and dry the gap first), then all the trim out on the inside of the header rail, so sun visors, interior light, full width trim etc.

     Now run a bead of RTV sealer between the point we’re the rubber trim across meets the metal frame of the screen…that includes taking of the roof locking catches..as you want a continuous bead.

     A check you can do first before stripping trim out , take the A pillar trim off and run kids colours chalk stick over the inside of the trim, run water over the car and if the chalk has washed away…the water is coming in from header rail rubber.

As to water in the boot …start high and work down…3rd brake light on the boot is a likely culprit, gasket brakes up over the years ….again more RVT sealer 👍🏻

Mark roof locking latch brackets ..so they refit in exactly the same spot👍🏻

Note ..carpets are plastic backed so water will pool in them but not reach the cars floor….well unless it’s coming in by the bucket load !

I had water ingress into boot which use to fill up the OSR storage hole, intially i thought it was coming in via osr taillight as thats where it was collecting in the storage hole below the light….eventually cured the problem by cleaning off old sealant and putting a line of new sealant just below rear window (marked up red in pic) worked a treat and never had a problem afterwards… not saying this is your problem but worth a look

@Graham Wilkinson as bob said the carpets are rubber backed and molded in pods… this is what they look like out of car… i took mine out to dye them black, (which took a few days and coats of dye 🙈) not a job id ever do again 😂

I received from eBay the used Denso reversing sensor today,plugged it in and it fired up and worked first time.Thanks once again,its great to have some fine weather and do things outside!!!!
