Hi,

my  CT200 is over 10 years with 127000 miles , I serviced  at the dealer for the last 12 years. A warning light came on last week "Check Hybrid system , engine yellow light was on too".  then despaired  the next day.

this Moring with the temperature -3 , the light came on again and the car lost acceleration power for a moment, however, I switch it off and left it for a 30 minutes , switch on again and all good but the lights still on.

I called  Jemca Lexus reading. they will charge £189 for diagnostic only, although the car had the service with them in August 2022 with hybrid system pass.

I would appreciate any  suggestion on how to fix the issue or where to repair with less diagnostic cost

Thank you!

I know your CT is out of criteria for the year by year, up to 10 yeas/100,000 miles warranty but  by having the annual hybrid check carried out it does extend the warranty on the hybrid system and Battery for another year up to 15 years.

see below, copied from the Lexus UK site.

Lexus warranty and hybrid vehicles

For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid Battery and components for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.

First of all, just be aware that "Check Hybrid System" doesn't necessarily point to a problem with the hybrid Battery. There are many components to the system and the Battery is just one of them.

Plus, Dave above is slightly incorrect in the information he gives regarding the Hybrid Health Check - it may check a few things but the warranty only applies to the Battery, not other components of the system.

You need to get the OBD error codes read or read them yourself. If you have a Windows laptop you can buy one of these cables from eBay. It will come with a pirated copy of Techstream, which is the same diagnostic software used by Lexus techs in the dealership workshops. Of course, we can't condone software piracy so the proper way would be to download a legit copy of Techstream from here https://www.lexus-tech.eu/DiagnosticTools/Setup and pay for a block of time to use it. Either way though, you'll need that cable from eBay.

If you don't have a laptop or don't want to bother with Techstream, you can buy other OBD2 readers here. However, Techstream is best because it also shows sub-codes that help narrow things down even further. For instance, a generic code reader may only show P0AA6, but that code covers 5 or 6 different things, so Techstream will show P0AA6-123* for one thing, while P0AA6-124* points to a different area, P0AA6-125* somewhere else and so on.

*Not real codes, just an example.

If you have a volt meter, check the voltage of your 12v Battery. It will cause all sorts of random warning and fault codes if it cannot hold a good charge. Being temperature related is a sign of the Battery is on its way out.

Dear All

Thank you  all for your help and advise , I end up taking it to  a local Toyota Hybrid specialist , the code was showing air control actuator, they replace it and all ok now. However i notice a big drop in  the MPG , I normally get 52MPG , but now is mid 40's

Glad it has been sorted, would not have thought that from the message "Check Hybrid system".

Hope your MPG sorts itself out soon, that is quite a difference.

I have a 2013 Ct200 F with 190,000 and growing miles.  Car has been great to me until recently.  Hard engine start, overheating, and Check Hybrid System, alert sloshing behind the dash. All happened at once.  I drive a lot for my sales job and get all regular maintenance on the car.   Started having intermittent heat as well.  Took it to a shop to get a new Coolant pump and thermostat.  No gasket leaks and shop scoped the cylinders for signs of coolant in the cylinders. No signs.  I also replaced the Plugs and Coil packs on my own. Car was running more smooth than I can remember.
I drove about 2 hrs with no issues.  Stopped and the engine light came on with Check Hybrid System again.
Brought back to the shop and they found a vacuum hose popped off.  It was dry rotted at the connecting points.  This in turn threw engine codes and CHS warning.    Al I’m saying is check your vacuum hoses.   This will cause  3-4 codes to pop.   Hope this helps anyone out there
