ok.. this is one for the MS techies

my PC periodically shuts down

1. the screen goes black

2. The board makes 3 two tone beeps "deedoo deedoo deedoo"

3 turns itself off

any ideas what the 3 two tone beeps mean??

Could be anything - maybe the PSU isn't up to the job, but could be overheating on the CPU or even bad memory etc...

What sort of PC is it?

Its a AMD 2800

thing is the CPU was doing sod all because I was out! LOL

I am gonna check for virus right now

Steve - do you know what wattage the PSU is? It's usually written on top - some of the AMD's need at least 300w before they're stable...

Actually, does the machine only reboot when you're on the internet???

Could possibly be one of those viruses like the RPC virus causing the machine to reboot - what version of Windows is it and do you keep it up to date with virus software and MS security patches etc??

Also, do you run either a hardware or software firewall??

I had a very similar problem, my issue was not enough thermal cement on the CPU, as soon as it got any strain on it, it conked out. XP 2600

You might want to try the memory as well,
