Hello. I just purchased a 2023 Lexus RX500h with this immobiliser system. 

Very often it would not start. The power steering light pops up and the message says No power steering....

No READY light.

Then, after many tries it starts. And then again won't start. The Battery inside is already replaced. No help.
What I should do?

I’d take it to Lexus.
If they sorted the canbus problem via recall you wouldn’t need the immobiliser.

I've always justified what is perhaps a slightly higher premium through Lexus Ins by the fact that the car goes to Lexus for the repairs. When I was with another insurer previously, they wanted the car to go to their approved repairer, which wasn't my choice and IIRC I had to pay the excess for the privilege of having work done by Lexus on a no fault accident.

My local dealer (Woodford) now have their own bodyshop too, which should make things easier in future - hoping obvs that I had no need.

Looks like it comes with a fairly chunky key fob to add to the key ring, but I guess, small price to pay for extra security.

You've justified it wrongly then because you've always been able to choose your own repairer for an increased excess (usually £200) or free most of the time if youre not at fault. 

So unless its less than the £200 a year difference, there's no point going for Lexus insurance, and even then, you'd have to have a claim every year for it to make sense even at that difference!

You dont need an immobiliser on the RX500h unless really wanted for extra security. It has an encrypted canbus so it won't be for canbus theft but more for relay theft

Imobilisers should be an owner choice after market purchase as a piece of mind, nice to have, NOT an ABSOLUTE NECESSITY and we should be able to insure wherever we can get the best deal.

Is this another kick owners in the teeth scam, make money on premiums, make money on a possibly second rate immobiliser, if other commentator is correct  about how good this "official" offering is, it certainly sounds an inconveniemtly large lump to keep in a pocket when not in the car and pretend " were Lexus, we're so good to our customers".

Laugh, I nearly cried.

Possibly your 12v Battery is discharged and nothing to do with the immobiliser. Either way I would get Lexus to look at it under warranty.

Make sure your following the correct start sequence as in the immobiliser quick start guide else the system wont disarm & will cause the error messages as your reporting.

This is just too much to do everytime I start the bloody car. 

I would like to remove the whole system but I am not sure if it is possible.

I have,recently purchased a used Lexus NX300h Takumi which came with two sets of keys each with this strange dongle attached to the keyring. The dongles appear to have a Lexus logo and I presume this is what what this thread is all about. I have a few questions if anybody can help me please

  • Were these immobilisers part of a package deal provided by Lexus Insurance ?
  • The immobiliser has activated on at least three occasions now and I have no idea how to correct this to start the car
  • The dongles have been into the Lexus dealer who have replaced the batteries but I have still experienced a failure to start
  • Does the immobilser need to be registerd to my adress now that it has a new owner and could this be the reason it is activated as it is not registering the new overnight parking address. I am not insured with Lexus Insurance, is this a requirement as their sysem is installed. Is the system some kind of tracker and Lexus Insurance know where you are at any specific time
  • Can the system be removed from the car altogether as I realy need a vehcle I can rely upon and confident that it will go each time I get into it
  • I am on the verge of handing the car back and returning to Jaguar out of pure frustration

Any help and pointers would be greatly apreciated please.

I tried Lexus insurance for mine but they didn't mention the immobiliser nor offer it when pushed.  Odd.  Dealer is adamant that a fix is on its way.....waiting with baited breath as Lexus UK should be covering the cost of the immobiliser if that is indeed the fix, to ALL fourth gen models, FOC.

I note that this immobiliser uses the 2G network---a network, which along with 3G is due to be switched off over the next few years. The very latest date that the networks will be switched off is 2033 but it is likely that most operators will switch off these networks much sooner

Just had an email from Lexus Insurance saying it's now a condition of renewal on our NX300h to have a 'Secondary Approved Immobiliser' and need to call to confirm what options there are.

I would hope that having had them fit their recommended one a couple of years back, this will just be a formality, but, slightly concerning, the list of approved manufacturers from Thatcham and TASSA that they share links to, doesn't include the manufacturer of the immobiliser that they fitted.. Guess I'll need to call and find out. Assume others will get this message too on renewal.

I'm guessing this is the secondary immobiliser that Lexus Insurance fitted to cars for a while, back in, I want to say 2021/22. It's to help get around the Canbus vulnerability as I understand it. There are a few things to be aware of with it;

Don't sit in the car for long periods without starting (10 mins was what I was told, but the documentation says longer), else it will trigger the immobiliser. However, if/when it does, you will get a message Hybrid System Stopped or similar from memory when you try to start the car. If this happens, just open the drivers door and close it and then try starting again (or get out, close and lock the car and open/get in again). If all else fails, take the fob apart, including removal of the Battery and there is a USB stick in it, insert this into the USB ports in the arm rest and try starting again. Batteries in ours lasted a decent while, but started to play up so replaced them and all was good in the world.

ETA; as far as I'm aware, not a tracker, just immobiliser. Doesn't require registering, just needs the keyfob thing to be in the car with you.

In case anyone is still reading this thread, I've had my renewal through today having called and they've accepted the immobiliser they provided and my premium, whilst it's gone up, hasn't gone by that much. And, getting some comparison quotes, it's 3rd cheapest of those that came up and the cheaper ones were from insurers that I'd not heard of, so, I'll be renewing with Lexus.

I had the same issue when renewing with them over the immobiliser, took a phone call to sort out. I suspect by now the customer service reps have had a lot of these calls.

I suspect they saw their sales drop and realised that people were going elsewhere.  Still £1700 was my best from one of the big insurers.  Lexus refused and then when pushed came back with £6K so it was a V to them.
