rear seats - will kids fit in them?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,  I've got the chance of picking up a rc300h to sit alongside my ageing RX400H (177k miles and still brilliant).  I was going to get a Jag XK but the salesman very honestly pointed out that the rear seats are totally impractical and showed me that a 10 year old would be most uncomfortable even if she could get in.  So are there RC300H owners on here who regularly take youngsters in the back - one would need a booster seat I guess, and a third. even younger one (nearly 4), might need a proper kid's seat .... but if that can't be done that's not a deal killer, as it's the 8 and 10 year olds that I regularly run about.

Thanks

Mike

Comfortably... probably not, but they definitely fit. I had 4 adults in my RC and it was definitely not comfortable but it is possible to have adults in the back for shorter journeys. So I reckon for kids it should be fine.

Basically the only problem for me is that I am 6'1 and there is definitely no space to sit behind me. If somebody has to sit behind me then I have to move seat forward which isn't comfortable. But my girlfriend is ~5'5 and in her normal sitting position there is sufficient space for adult in the back. As such we often had 3rd person in the back and it was completely fine as long as they sit behind the passenger. Again on that basis I think kids should be fine, adults not so much.

In the end of day - best thing would be to have test drive and see for yourself.

Had a test drive and assumed kids in rear seats would be OK (since they were in school at the time).  But after double checking that the XK seats are NOT really viable it made me wonder about the RC.  Good to know your thoughts.

In my experience as mentioned above it depends on your height.  I’m 6’3” so I’ve got to put the seat forward to transport 4 people.  Luckily this is rare and it’s drunk women in the back so don’t mind.  Three is fine, just put the passenger seat forward.

One thing to consider is if the seats are electric they take ages to move forward when you pull the lever and it can be hard to reach too.

Are you moonlighting as a mini cab driver?

No judgement. Just curious

I have 2 grandchildren in the back of mine quite regularly.

Initially one forward facing, and one rear. This one does compromise the front seat, and it does have to be nearly fully forward. Luckily my wife is 5' 3", so she wasn't too cramped.

When both forward facing, front seats can be in normal positions.

We recently had a 2 hour trip, with 7 year old behind me, and wife next to her, front seat empty.

Without stops both were comfy, although granddaughter did have to put her legs sideways after a while.

Don't forget there's only 2 seats and belts in the rear!

No, just the wife and her friends.

Suppose you could call that a form of taxi service.  Tends to be in my best interests however.
