Very well put Bernard. Your post prompted a memory of a Top Gear episode where they did a special on Saabs. An excellent special too. From their beginnings to their unfortunate demise. The last question/point was where did the Saab owners go next. Answer BMW. 

I nearly bought a Carlson Saab but the UR Quattro won my heart.

I like the older Saab. A 99 turbo would be my choice. Always had older rear wheel drive 240, 740 and now 940. Toyota Auris after Lexus IS220D.

Remember my aged ( 78 )  cousin had a early Saab .  back n the 1960's ...  was a bit boxy and then they traded down to ordinary cars and now have an Audi that old people drive !

My Saab came from my used car lot N4PRO and then I took charge of the Ls400  J54DAP that we couldn't sell ... then only ever had a Ls400 as MY car .......  22 years on !

Lexus was the only progression from Saab for me.

But the bean counters started to have an influence over Saab in the early 2000's. I suspect they reached Lexus 10 years later.

reading that 1982 cars are exempt from the London ULEZ and upcoming fiscal demands from the Ruler of London ......  and seeing Pie in the Sky chap Crabb has a Y plate red Saab too ......  is this the way to go I wonder ?
