Well guys, I used this cataclean stuff in the hope of getting the emissions down. i gave the car a good run for a couple of weeks. And before i got the emissions tested today i covered roughly 200 miles. The car was hot really hot when it went on the test infact so hot the fan kept on coming on.

The CO emissions was .70 so a fail. Before the cataclean and driving it it was 0.8. So not much of a difference.

The guy who did the emissions test today said to me all the readings seem to be right like the lambda, cat, HC apart from the CO. He said normally when CO reading is out its due to the ecu unit. So he told me to take the car to toyota dealers or something and they'd be able to sort the ecu problem out. he didnt think it was anything major in terms of cost.

So, what do you guys think? do you know anyone with the equipment to do diagnostic tests on altezza's?

on most toyota's and lexi a paerclip will do the job, there's a diagnostics box in the engine bay, believe it's e1 and t1 that you short, turn the key to on (not to tick over) and the engine light will flash a code if there are any problems....

codes should be available somewhere on the web :)

i dont know much about emissions & yes you do need a diagnositic test equipment(dont know name of it), should have them in any jap import specialist or a good garage.

no man, i didnt import it myself. I dont think there is any big problem with the car but just cannot find the right guy to take it to. Who would have the equipment and experience to know abt jap cars.

Toyotas mostly have a diagnostic socket with a flip up lid in the engine bay.

Inside the lid there's normally a label showing which pins are which.

Joining T+E1 with a link wire typically flashes error codes on a light in the dash.

On the IS200, these 'pins' aren't present in the diagnostic socket.

Codes are read using a tester plugged in under the dash instead.

Not sure if something can be fiddled under there or not.

Altezza may differ from IS200 ??

mark, do you think lexus would have the equipment to do a diagnostic test?

i should think it does, some lexus dealer sells imported altezza / aristo etc.... as well as able to service & maintanence them.

i know reputable jap import garages/specilast do otherwise lot of modern cars be lost without it. when you say cant find right people, where did you try get it done? i wouldnt bother with cowboy garages, they cant even fix with uk spec cars.
