Hi All,

I've noticed the headlamps (the clear casing) on my 2014 IS300h are becoming hazy. It's worse at the top but seems to be working its was down. It's surprising as its only 8 years old and I have a 12 year old Mercedes CLC as well which has totally clear headlamps. Not sure if the spray of screen cleaner you get when you first clean the windscreen is causing this or this is just what happens at 8 years.

If anyone else has this problem on their IS300h or knows how to get rid of it permanently or for a good while at least, please let me know as its likely to make the car look quite aged as it goes on.

Cheers

Lenses used to be made from glass and never suffered from this problem but now that they're made from polyurethane (or is it polycarbonate, I can't remember) the UV light from the sun causes this to break down and become cloudy/hazy.

Below is just one video of many available on YouTube (must admit that I haven't watched it - just picked one at random) and this particular one uses a 3M Headlight Restoration Kit but others are available if you wish.

The most important thing is to use a good UV-resistant top coat to finish the job, otherwise they'll be just as bad again in a month or two.

Before you wheel out the big guns try the AmorAll kit. You can get it from Halfords. It's a chemical rather than abrasive solution and I've used it with good results on various cars.

Note: The sealant takes a while to dry so once done the car is best left under cover overnight.
