The Pilot SS were pants, but PS4 and PS4S seem to have lasted much longer in comparison.

I’ve still got supersports on the RCF but will try something else next time around.  Have used PS4S and thought they work quick.  Best experience on Type R was Goodyear Eagle F1 Assy5. Might actually try them next time around. ISF has Assy3 which were good too

The PSS would shred on the rear of the car for me, they were already low when I bought the F. So I went PS4, as at the time couldn't get all 4 tyres in the S. I would rate PS4 over PS4S for road only tyres. I only went for S this time around because I had a coupon making them as cheap as the PS4, so gave them a whirl! I quite like some of the Continental tyres tbh, served me well on previous cars.

Its the tyres that kill me!

At least the tyres only have to be done every few years and you actually get something tangible for your money. Road tax being £630 per year now is what pains me. The later GPF-equipped cars are £165 per year.

I like the PS4S once they are warm, but when cold they are almost comically bad at times. Are the PS4 any better in that regard?

Because I wasn't paying attention to that particular factor, hard to give an honest answer. 4S are definitely better in the wet though. Both 'crab' in cold weather equally on lock to lock turns. But considering that a lot of driving is average mile crunching, money saving wise the PS4 are more than adequate and can handle the odd burst of throttle.

I thought about waiting for newer used Rcf (2018) because of the lower tax but after researching, it's not actually much cheaper, you pay whatever the tax is plus an extra £350 on top for the first 6 years of the cars life because its worth over £40000 new. The person who buys the car new has to pay £1500 first year tax.

Yeah, I had the same kind of realisation. Why spend an extra £10k to save a few hundred a year, it only makes sense financially if you're keeping the car for well over 10 years. The heated steering wheel would be nice though... as would the shorter gearing and weight savings.

I think the lower tax cars are RCF’s and GSF’s registered after 1st April 2017. I don’t think it’s to do the the addition of a GPF though.

Steering wheel is better than the heated seats!  Is the gearing different on the later cars?  It’s also worth considering you get other things such as AVS and a bigger navigation screen along with a newer car that will possibly have less wear and tear.

I think is an act of god & not insured. Could have been worse, Id thought of spending more & waiting for a carbon edition to show up in the right colour, Im not sure if carbon roof would take a hit better than the metal roof but if it cracked or something it would probably cost a lot more to fix.

The one thing I dont get about Lexus is how cheap they are with the headunit screens, the UX is by far the worst, they clearly could have put a much bigger screen in, but they make you pay extra for an upgrade option, its like a punishment for not buying a higher grade. You dont see this in Toyotas.

The infotainment/sat nav systems on the lexus models are the Achilles heals … for the past 21yrs ive had a lexus and every single one the systems has been  poor, against other manufacturers systems…. Ive had LS 400s 430 and the 600hL is200 is300h GS450 SC430 RX450 and RCF and my old Toyota soarer 4.0 GTL which was a 93 reg had a better system in it than 80% of the above cars ive had….. they need to catch up with the competition

I have found a use for ECO mode ... in 20mph zones.  It keeps me "legal".

Being mostly in traffic until I cross the M25, I find normal mode works well for me.

Once I get to decent (relatively clear) A-roads or wider B-roads, I think Sport S mode is great.

On joining dual carriageways, Sport S+ allows me to really enjoy the performance and accompanying engine note, at least for a few seconds!

I tend to switch driving modes quite often ...

Yes, I switch drive modes throughout a  journey to suit the roads & the driving conditions as well👍🏻

I think you have dodged a potential bullet with the carbon roof, given that a lot of the carbon on the GSFs are delaminating.

It’s happening in the UK as well as America so it’s a general manufacturing defect. Both interior and exterior parts.
