Morning folks. Looking for some advice.

i went out in my car last night and found that my headlights were both not working. Full beam works fine, side lights also but no headlamps- weird. I’d replaced the pair around 9 months ago so I’d assume that they both haven’t blown simultaneously but maybe…. However, would appreciate your thoughts as to what else it may be before I replace them both (again) - fortunately have the receipt so if it’s the bulbs will be able to at least chat to the store. I bought Bosch 50% extra brighter so expected these to last a fair length of time. Also from a reputable store and not online.

As ever grateful for your thoughts.

Given that the other the lights are working, the fuses sound okay and the wiring. Always check fuses.

Check the bulbs, it is possible they have both blown.

Otherwise check the connections at the rear of the bulb, they may have worked loose, but I would be surprised at both of them working loose at the same time.

Hope it is just the bulbs.

Cheers. Checking fuse when home and take it from there.

Full beam working ok but the dipped beam failed? Both sides?

My thought would be the stalk? Contacts failed for the dipped function as they are used most frequently?

Ok that's the easiest fix.

These extra bright lamps do tend to fail more quickly than the standard versions. That said just 9 months from a reputable source seems a tad short! Check to see if you have any warranty with them?

Guess given daylight or dusk driving in the city, I may not have noticed but…. I agree, strange.

Worth measuring the Battery voltage when the engine is running to make sure it isn't over voltage and stressing the bulbs. You don't really want to see anything higher than 14.6 v.
