Hi All,

I am looking for wisdom and advice please...

I have had tell tale signs of a leak in the boot, water of the cover that sits under the roof when the roof is in the boot (Please see photos)

The boot liner is wet right above where the third break light sits and I have read that this is a problem area for roof leaks, and you need to take off the boot cover, take off the brake light and re-seal and put everything back together.

So how do I get the clips off? (Please see photo) Do I just try and pull them off? Then what do I seal the brake light with and where do I seal it? All around the edge, or just at the back?

Thank you in  advance for any help or ideas.

Philip

Bob will have the answer on this aswell as anything else on the SC.

He is a hive of useful info, he should write a manual on all the pitfalls and repairs.

C’mon Bob😂😂

If it's a small leak, and you want to have a go at fixing it without the faff off taking things apart, then you might want to try something called Captain Tolleys Creeping Crack Cure. It's a thin, milky coloured liquid, often used to seal hard to find leaks in hatches etc on boats. I've used it with some success on leaks in a windscreen and trim surrounds.

Basically you pour it along any joins and it seeps into any gaps and seals the leaks. It may or may not be sufficient for your leak, but is cheap and easy to try. If not then it's a case of taking thinks apart and  silicone sealant.

I have a water ingress in exactly the same place. I have improved on what it was but its not 100% yet.

The back corner of the boot aperture seal has a drain hole in it, make sure it's clear or water pools there and comes over the seal.

There is plastic cup at the back corners, these have a hole and a rubber drain hose, make sure that is clear.

Give all the seals with a good coating of Shin Etsu grease which will rejuvenate them.

Next cross your fingers and retest!!

Good luck, Anthony

I have followed this recurring issue here and on the other (mainly US members) forum.  Luckily, I don’t have the leak problem (yet) and so I am not totally au fait as to where all the drain holes are to check and clear where necessary.  May I suggest it a good topic to consider for a potential workshop subject at our next summer meet?

Having read and re-read as many posts I could both from here and from America, I plucked up the courage to have a go at fixing the leak. I have attached some photos of what I did. I did clean up the silicon before putting all the tape on, the tape was only on there to allow the silicon to dry. I have checked it once since and it’s 95% better 😎 maybe I should have another check tonight?

I also took some trim off to see if I could find any other source to the leak.

Only any help if I’ve done the job in question ☹️

high level brake light reseal would be first suggestion.

then runs some kids coloured chalk around the rubber boot seal ,then next time it rains see if any chalks has been washed away ….that will be the leak area 👍🏻

Thanks Bob, that’s the next thing I will be tackling. The leak is still there but a lot better than it was.
