Hello,

I have a 2007 RX400H that I bought 4 years ago with a single grey valet key. After Lexus told me they couldn't replace the missing master keys, I lived dangerously until a few months ago when I ordered a couple of 4D keys from the USA and had them cut and reprogrammed as clones of the valet key. In the meantime, I came across a post somewhere that explained that the Toyota Smart Keymaker worked well but I suspect that the reason it doesn't work with my my new reprogrammed (by a locksmith) keys is that they are clones of an existing key and therefore considered by the system to be one and the same key. In a nutshell, the 3 keys start the car but the security light stays flashing and never goes out. If I understand rightly, intermittent two flash sequences means that the car is in key programming mode? The problem is that even the "turning the key in the ignition 5 times within 10 seconds" doesn't solve the problem...

That same topic seemed to indicate that the security light using the keymaker gagdet would only turn off after at least 3 keys had been programmed so I am a bit stuck. Does anyone know whether my suspicion that it cannot work with already cloned keys is correct? I am thinking of getting a couple of new unprogrammed keys (or resetting/replacing the programmed transponder chips) and trying the Smart Keymaker procedure again.

The purpose of this whole palaver is to be able to programme central locking on the two new keys as the current state of affairs does not allow me to get into programming mode for that.

Any ideas or suggestions would be most appreciated !

You need normal transponders for the car to learn, not special cloned ones.

If you purchased your keys from the US then the central locking part is unlikely to work as they use a different frequency, unless the keys purchased were explicitly European ones.

Thank you, Colin. Any tips as to the best place to get a couple of compatible replacement keys, please? Lexus France have not been overly helpful... Does this mean that my new transponder chips operate on a different frequency. Theoretically I should just be able to replace the transponders and get them reprogrammed if I understood you correctly?
