LC Seat Movement

Does anyone else have a slight drivers seat movement when coming to a complete stop or setting off? I can feel something and not sure whether its the base or the back.

Otherwise I will have to take a look.

You are not alone. This thread was created by a member on this forum but on the Lexus US site, albeit I think there is mention on the UK site as well.

Yes, I had this issue. Seat rocks forwards and backwards. Absolutely horrible feeling when pulling off and coming to a stop. I've seen at least 5 owners report this as an issue. I believe it's a fault with not just the LC, but other Toyota products as well.

Having sat in a brand new LC, knowing what I was looking for, I could reporoduce the rocking. Only minor, but no doubts, the fault was present.

Remedy - a new seat base from Japan. Not cheap! Lexus must know.

Can you replicate it when the car is not moving? Looking at the other forums some are suggesting it needs new rails?

Thanks Everyone. The movement can be felt in both passenger and drivers seat. It does seem that the tracks are the issue from all the threads I have found and a surprisingly common issue. I suspect there are a lot of Lexus owners who have it but are not bothered or think its normal. I am interested to know why they replaced the whole seat base for you Flytvr and not just the tracks.

I will have to remove the seat and take a look. I'll also try and identify the part on LexusTech. 

And there I was thinking it would be a quick fix.

Shapiro. What year, model and mileage is your car? Just curious as you dont have it.

Yep - you will notice a small movement - it will feel a bit like the seat is loose from the floor.

So from the EPC it looks like the tracks cannot be purchased separately and you have to buy the entire base assembly. 😞

72010-11030 for RH
72020-11030 for LH

The base assembly is the same for the sport and non sport seat. BTW can anyone tell me what the actual difference is on those seats?

So looks like the options are 1) Buy and fit the entire assembly, 2) cross reference to Toyota and see if I can get the tracks or the assembly cheaper or 3) Complain to Lexus and push warranty

The part is showing up around 1000USD online.

I didnt buy the car from Lexus and I suspect it will be a battle pushing a warranty claim however 5 years and 30k mileage and a loose seat is arguably not wear and tear...

Has it been serviced by Lexus within the last year?

Hi Brian - yes in June at Lexus Leeds. I bought in May from an indy so only came with 3mth warranty.

Looking at this you should be covered by the Lexus 12 month service warranty even if services have been missed.

I read this earlier. The best I could hope for that route would be a discounted / subsidised part and or labour however it would probably be difficult.

I'd really like to find a specialist to look at it and determine which part in the assy is the problem.

As Steve and Peter have eluded, the "Relax" warranty will hopefully cover this. I seem to recall Dav whilst having a similar experience was nonetheless covered by the honourable dealer he bought his car from but I do stand to be corrected here.

Probably best to visit a dealer and ask, you might be pleasantly surprised and better still your wallet will thank you!

Ts & Cs appear pretty much the standard get out clause but is there a difference between “wear and tear” and “fair wear and tear” given the fault is known and one owner had it occur at 31,000 miles.

I never saw any seat runner problems with the 1 million mile 25 year old LS400 reported.

”Excessive play” so worn wheel bearings, ball joints and steering racks wouldn’t be covered also?

If the movement becomes more pronounced could this defect given time become an MOT failure under section 2.7?

The only way to find the true answer is a dealer visit.

I was lucky. I didn't buy my car from Lexus. I spotted the issue within the first week of ownership. The dealer agreed to put the car right.

I'm confident, but hopefully wrong, that a Lexus warranty won't cover this. Reason being that I had an IS-F back in the day, and it developed a clicking seat (when cornering). Once again, this was a rail issue. I tried my best to get Lexus to replace the seat, but even going to Lexus UK, the answer was, "Sorry, that's wear and tear". I guess, if your car is very low mileage, things might be different. Like I said, I hope I am wrong. 

Technically, I do believe Toyota make their seat mechanisms out of chocolate!

I am also confident it will not be covered. It reads pretty clearly in the T&Cs that this is falling into a damage or defect not covered by warranty. That said all the marketing for Lexus Relax suggests it far more generous 🙂

I guess there is only one way to find out, nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I sincerely hope Lexus will be more generous than we think they will be and/or at least take the sting out of the costs to repair what really should not have been broken!
