Hello Everyone,

I am looking to renew my driving licence bu the end of this month. Based on an car’s estimated value of 20k for my IS 300h Executive- 2018, the Admiral is asking for 1400 GBP. To be honest, it looks very expensive to me so tried to look for some alternatives. From GoCompare I got a quote from Aviva for about 1k. So just want to check should I go ahead with them or any other provider I should look out for?

As my license is just 1 year old I am assuming the prices for me will be a bit higher but I am not convinced to put 1.5k for it. Any help will be appreciated

Best bet is to use the comparison websites like you have started on. Everyone is so different any comparisons to other people is meaningless. IMHO Admiral (there are other brands in the group) are generally good for newly qualified drivers. Also having a black box fitted may reduce premiums further.

And have an older person who has at least 15 years driving experience on your policy as a named driver !

But not as the main driver, that's 'fronting' and fraudulent

https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/legal/fronting-and-car-insurance/#:~:text=should be avoided.-,What is fronting%3F,is a younger%2C riskier motorist .

Thank you so much. I found the go compare offering cheaper than alternative website compare the market. Black box is a good option will ask Admiral abt it.

In the comparison sites, there is usually a tick box if you want to include quotes with a black box included. In general, for newly qualified drivers, it will be cheaper if you have a black box fitted (assuming that you are quite young) but once you have had your licence a few years it becomes cheaper without the black box (presumably because the insurance company have to pay to fit it and once their risk is less it's not in their interests to do this...).

Increasing your voluntary excess may help reduce the premium, but will obviously cost you more in the event of a claim.

Yes, will do so. Not that young but my 10 years of driving in India does not count here. And when I moved to UK in ,my first 6 years in London never provoked me to get a license as commute was good and never felt the need to buy a car in city. Outside London is a whole different world 🙂

Have no one with even 5 years on it. My friends are almost same as me and no relative’s in the UK

In the comparison sites you can also try changing your job description (obviously don't lie but sometimes the same job can be described in different ways) and whether you park on road, secure parking, drive or garage (assuming you have any choice with this) as these can also make some difference to the premiums charged. Similarly where ithe car is parked during the day (again if you have any flexibility there).

blimey I'd have thought that if you're accident free in Delhi or Mumbai you're a bit of a magician ....... dodging cars, trucks, motorbikes with families on board, horses, dogs, cows ( very very careful there ) the odd camel and elephant, well, you'd be a bit of a magician  🤣

Well done driving there .  i sure wouldn't

Mumbai is my Fav place to drive, I lived in Pune and were in Mumbai almost every weekend. The express way (Only 4 wheelers allowed) allows you to test the true perf of your car(s) 😄 On highway all you need to do is "Find the Gap" 😉

Try checking Direct Line too.  They were the cheapest I found and they don't appear on comparison sites.

Hmm, they are quoting me 1k gbp. How are they comapred to Admirals? Admiral quoted me 1.4k gbp

Hard to say, as you don't really know until you need to make a claim. I know Direct Line have various options where if someone hits you in a car park, or you get pothole damage, it doesn't affect your no claims bonus. Then again, when I used Admiral for a previous car they were very good when I needed to claim.

I suppose your biggest problem is that you curently have no no claims bonus. Personally I'd probably go with the cheapest big name provider I could find for the first year, and then see if I could improve it once I had a years no claims bonus.

My experience with Churchill was so-so.... and with Privilege, a bit better but more of the same. They're part oft he same parent company anyway... They just had me pay a 400 pound deposit for a non-fault and now i have to wait until god know when to claim it back from them.

Thinking of migrating to LV next year....they had a good price when I was looking around

I've often used a good old fashioned Insurance Broker...

Also adding a spouse ( if you have one ) as a named driver helps...
