I have pretty much same problem on my RX400h, cat was nicked a couple of years ago and had a straight piece of pipe welded in to replace it. Now the pipe has broke away as it joins the centre box. I don't want to fork out £700+ for the complete section and have cat pinched again. I was looking at eBay and RX300 centre box/cat 2 piece kit for £256. Does anyone now if the centre box is the same RX400h to RX300?

so to update everyone or to inform those that might be looking

catman in Southampton are supplying me with a brand new centre section for £290 DELIVERED

that was £200 cheaper than anywhere else and more than i wanted to pay but to sell the car on it needs to be correct to pass mot.

So you bought it 3 years ago and it was "bodged" but it's passed every MOT since then (or at least, not failed on that part), so why not just have the bodge repaired or bodge it again instead of buying a new centre section?

NB - I'm not advocating any 'bodginess', just wondering why, if the bodge was acceptable to you when you bought it, are you worried about it now?

Does this include cat, or is it just the section with middle silencer? At that price, I expect no cat.

To be fair the bodged bodge can't be bodged no more ,so time to replace and for all mot's it wasn't blowing so no issue.

it said it did but until it arrives i can't say for sure, but as long as it's fit for purpose and gets through an mot that's all that matters ,like I've said i only need the car till the new year and then I'll sell it on

Well, I think a middle section including cat and silencer for that price is really good.  When my middle section rusted through a couple of years ago, I could not find anyone who could supply a replacement part without having the car in their workshop so they could make it to fit. In the end, I took it to a local exhaust specialist who made a new middle section with silencer in stainless steel.

So the exhaust finally turned up after being stuck in customs for over a week and NO it did not have a cat it was a straight through pipe with middle box

i had pre soaked the bolts in WD40 a few times and then unbolted everything and replaced i think i prefer it like it is as there's no new cat for someone to steal

i spoke to the mot tester who was happy with it .

so all good and only took me 1 hour to change so happy days
