There are a few rusty examples for sale but it's still possible to find a decent one without breaking the bank as so many have been properly maintained.

I'm glad to be able to confirm Neil's comment, having taken delivery of my SC430 yesterday. It looks like a new car, both inside and out, despite its 15 years of use. A full service record plus all the documentation shows that, for the first 8 years or so it was probably a daily driver, but gradually after that it was more probably a second car, used for pleasure and cherished. It will continue in that vein—I don't do a lot of mileage and I'm prepared to spend on keeping it in the best condition I can. Bought from a Lexus showroom, it wasn't cheap, but the price was ok, given that I've been used to buying new Lexus cars for several years! It's almost certainly my last car, so some lucky buyer will benefit when I pop my clogs.

Was that the blue SC  from the Sidcup dealer ?

Hi Ken

Glad to hear you have taken delivery and it is just as beautiful as you remembered it at the dealer.

I hope you are soon able to get out and enjoy some top down touring.

By next year I hope you will feel impelled to join us near Coventry for the weekend of the annual meet so we can meet you and give your car a good looking at!

Anthony

Thanks, Anthony. I'm absolutely delighted with the car, which makes it all the more irritating that I can't take it for a spin for another couple of weeks! It was an unfortunate coincidence having a long-awaited NHS cataracts operation at the same time as buying the car. Obviously, I couldn't put off either of them, so I just have to contain my impatience and wait for the ophthalmologist to give me the okay to drive.

Oddly enough, the annual meet in Coventry took place about three days before I first spotted this car. I'm sure I'd have chosen to attend if I'd bought it, but I'll hope to be attending the next meet.

For what it's worth, you may like to know that I'm having a reversing camera fitted and a tracker installed next Friday, both arranged by my Lexus dealership—they'll collect my car and return it. I'll post a report on the job when I've got it back.

Having cataracts done is the greatest thing ever Ken 😎, the difference I found is nothing short of miraculous. Once you are OK to drive and your budget stretches up to it try Serengeti sunglasses for for a fantastic combination 👍

I agree with you about the amazing outcome of having cataracts done. The brightness improvement has me frequently having to wear dark glasses indoors! Colours are so much better, too. As for clarity, I don't now need glasses for distance and I almost don't need them for reading—I can certainly read my computer screens without them. All I now need is the clearance to put my eyes to work, driving my car!

I looked up Serengeti sunglasses and the variety is amazing—hard to choose on line. Which version did you go for?

Some years ago on the M6 I did see Pen 15 on a red MB 450slc 😱

PEN 15 once (and may still) belonged to Steve Parrish, motorcycle and truck racer extraordinaire. Many moons ago, I went karting with some chums at Hoddeston and we saw said Steve with his black Merc (if my memory serves me accurately) in the car park sporting the rather naughty numberplate. Being young, we tittered and pointed a lot.

The rarest number I ever saw in person was CYN1C, which I'd like to have, but I'm sure would be far too expensive. It was in front of me at a traffic light, but got away from me when he "amber-gambled"—I was just pottering about and would have followed to see whether it was owned locally. I haven't seen it again, though.

So currently on a 10-year old VW Polo, must be worth way more than the car.

Tommaso, which I think are now discontinued but are available from some places as long as you can be sure they are not Chinese knock-offs 👍

When I was working ‘ooop North’ I often used to stay in Peniston near Sheffield.

It must take a special type of person who wants to live in Penist…😆

Really???

Eh up lad!

That's the kind of thing that amuses small boys!!

It's correct spelling is Penistone.

Pronounced as Penny stone.

For people from Berkshire I just can't get my head around the first four letters 😱

...not you as well Phil

Steady up at the back no giggling, eyes to the front and listen!

It never was and never is pronounced ***** tone except by small boys and Top Gear presenters

Whereas it is pronounced Peni (like penny) stone.

I also don't want to hear about places Scratchy Bottom, Lower Swell or Nether Wallop! Even if I do find the last one amusing and possibly painful.
