I couldn't help but notice with the warm weather (and expectation of increasingly more in future), that there were many more open top cars on the road.  Unfortunately, for those of us that want an SUV, this does not appear to be an option.  I am aware that extra bracing  would be necessary but it seems to me that there could be potential for this sort of option. Maybe it could incorporate one or two roll safety cages to also help rigidity.  (If only I had Elton Musk's money to develop!!) You could opt one of those convertible Evoque things.  Only ever seen them in pics though, probably as questionable as the T-roc convertible that VW offer.

Closest you would get on the RX would be a panoramic sunroof I think?

The gen2 Harriers had a funky triple sunroof too:

These were quite popular in the US. Here in the UK the Range Rover Evoque cabriolet was probably the most "popular" although not an everyday sight! No longer available new there are quite a number for sale on Autotrader.

an old fashioned 1950's Land Rover  ??

I can picture them now, open top with a canvas over-cover the steel frame and up to maybe a 8 seater too :unsure:

I remember being driven in one in The Gambia in the late nineteen sixties.  Not too bad on the made up roads but the last 100 or so miles were on dry laterite.  The canvas didn't do a great job of keeping the dust out and by the time we reached our destination, my white shirt was entirely orange. 

But much worse was to come.  On the return trip to Bathurst (now Banjul), the lights failed and we used a torch I had in my overnight bag to get us to a place the driver knew where he scrounged what must have been bell wire or similar. I joined several lengths of this together and wired it direct from the Battery to one headlight.  Well that got us some miles before smoke started to come from under the bonnet.  This wire was all we had, so we added some more lengths and eventually arrived back in Bathurst,  relieved to avoid being stuck on a bush .track overnight with a valuable cargo.  I understand it cost our company quite a lot to get the electrics and wiring sorted. 

No, I wouldn't want one of those vehicles, although I  did go round the off road course  by Gaydon British Motor Museum in one a few years ago.

you really needed the later invented humungous Toyota LandCruiser diesel thingy that they probably use these days :wink3:
