Hi All,

Has anyone on here converted the stock D4S HID Bulb to a D4S LED bulb.

I ask as I'm looking to change my less bright HID to LED ones on MY13 IS300H. The current light reach is quite poor, having replaced a failed bulb from Lexus last year.

Was looking to upgrade to the newer IS300H with LED lights, but seeing the current used prices, it does not seem worth paying thousands extra.

So thought it might be much cheaper to convert the headlights to LED.

Have seen some on amazonhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Headlight-Bulbs-Conversion-10000LM-Replacement/dp/B08BYJWDDQ

Any ideas on how difficult or cost to have this conversion.

Thanks

It's an instant MOT fail if the light source (bulb) does not match the light housing unit.

In other words, if the fitting is designed for a halogen bulb then it must have a halogen bulb in it. If it's designed for HID then it must have a HID bulb in it and so on.

Thanks for the information @Herbie that is good to know.

Didn't realise that this would be an MOT Fail.

Oh well, looks like have to look into some better HID bulbs.

Osram Night Breaker are pretty good.

I have used the Osram's and they were an improvement (on a non Lexus vehicle), not used Philips but clearly they are a reputable brand so should be fine.

Could be straight forward, might not be

Read this to get a (possible) balanced view - LED Retrofit

Because the LEDs have a rapid ramp time (to overcome forward voltage in the LED), this can stress ballasts, which are expecting to see a soft start filament.

Also I have heard that the LED appears to work, but then the revelent ECU reports problems as it sees line voltages as not expected.

(just seen other posts about MOT fail - totally forgot about that)
