It has a Toyota 3.5 V6 so reliability will not be a worry. Obviously cannot be compared with V8 LC 500  but will surely give the V6 LC 500h a run for its money performance wise. What are your thoughts

Different breed of vehicle.

One is a GT car and this is designed more for the race track. I highly doubt refinement and build quality will be as good as the LC. The other issue is yes, the engine may be reliable but the electronics could potentially be a nightmare

Apparently Lotus have upped their game on R&D front; see the reviews on their other super car.

One does not buy a Lexus to give anything a run for its money Banji.

Buy something else.

Not sure I follow your point. Am a complete Lexus enthusiast and currently driving my 6th Lexus car. But that doesn’t stop me from admiring other car makes especially if they are as good looking as this Lotus. We also have other cars in our household so am not wedded to just one brand

@FattsHow much is the Lotus? You refer to "lower cost" in your title.

The Catwow video stated it is likely to be marketed around the £60K mark

Could be me but i really like the new Emira. Seems to tick all the boxes looks great, toyota 6 pot manual good interior and price is correct as well. Harry had the sport and touring models for a run so check his vid out.

This will steal a lot of customers from Porsche and Alpine. If it drives as well or better than a Cayman and Geely's influence over Lotus works as well as it did recently at Volvo,  they are onto a winner.

I don't know about Alpine, never driven one and only seen one on the road since the came out.My memories of the one and only Renault I had (as a company car)  were that it was crap quality. The Cayman was superb, but very expensive to run over 7 years--made Lexus costs look a bargain.

If it doesn't have Loads Of Trouble, Usually Serious it should do very well.

I like it and I am sure it would drive well and be fun for a couple of days

buy it’s not a car I want  as May daily driver.

I've always had a soft spot for Lotus, albeit I've never owned one. I too saw Mat Watson's review of the Emira and clearly Lotus have not only produced a good looking and very capable car but also something that  provides creature comforts in its cabin. At the suggested price point, I think they could be onto a winner. As I often say, so many "British" car manufacturers could do even better if they would but employ the QA team that works for Lexus or come to that just about any Japanese car company.

The cost of options apparently are ridiculous. The First edition is said to be £71995 yet you cant actually buy one for that and its actually £75995.

I wonder if they do the same thing with the £59995 version when it arrives

Reminds me of the Ducati Owners club motto:

cheaper LC alternative is the Toyota Supra

Much cheaper is the new toyota GR86, which is quite a little bargain really

All these are mixtures between track cars and street legal cars. None of them qualify as track cars. Few (none) of them will be comfortable as daily drivers.

A compromise is a compromise no matter how fun it can be to drive these cars.

Best compromise is very old:

I hesitated between le LC and the lotus evora. Very different cars and interior from the LC is way better. Fast is not the only criteria to take into account.
