Dear Forum,

I need to replace the air con condenser in my 2007 Lexus RX400h SE-L CVT, reg. 3311cc, 155kW, VIN/Chassis No: JTJHW31UX02019581, ENGINE No: 3MZ0465342.

The condensers I've seen advertised measure 656mm across the core whereas mine measures 673mm with an overall width of 695mm.

Does anyone have any experience of fitting a 656mm condenser in place of a 673mm one? The advertisers are willing to sell me one but are not willing to confirm if suitable. Thanks for your help. Dave.

I'm afraid that I don't know the answer Dave but, although I assume you know this already, it can't hurt to reiterate it - when you regas the system, make sure you use ND11 oil rather than the PAG oil found in conventional cars because PAG conducts electricity and will damage the motor.

More dimensions of my existing condenser. If the replacement unit meets the 686mm dimension then it should fit but still waiting for replies.

Anyone know where I might fit the part number of my existing condenser?

Thanks for that Colin. I looked under Cooling/Heating but didn't think to look under Engine/Service Kits.

Much appreciated.

Update: My Lexus now has a new engine radiator and a new air con condenser. Re-assembly was a lot easier than removal as both units were fitted as a pair and all of the bolts were well lubricated. I only needed to elongate a couple of holes on the hybrid radiator mounting brackets by about 1mm to permit fixing to the new air con condenser.

Regassing: My local air con specialist quoted £50 but they claim to use only one type of oil for all cars and that is a non-conductive oil. However, my local Toyota main dealer quoted £99 for ND11. It's decision time!

Absolutely no question or decision in my mind.

The label in my engine bay states ND11 or equivalent, so in theory it should be alright but it's a very expensive lesson to learn if it goes the other way. Personally, if ND11 is available I would stick to that.

Hope it’s ok to follow this up… may I ask… where did you source your condenser? My garage warned me at last year’s service the condenser may not hold but the system did hold pressure, until the hot weather (typical)… I need to replace… I had a new radiator 5 years ago so I won’t need to replace this… thanks, Ez
