Going to look at this tomorrow:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202205225974012

I'm fairly new to LS430, and the prices seem to vary a lot, Assuming it's mint throughout, what price would you say is right for this one? There was a gap in the MOT history when I checked but I think it may have had a private plate for a couple of years, or it just hasn't moved?

Also it was sold for £6,500 a couple of years ago with only 24k miles on it, which I reckon back then was a bargain, but £12k even with the way things are seems quite high?

it's at the same dealership that has one at 8k with 84k miles which is definitely overpriced given its condition and history (or lack thereof) but I'm not looking to judge the car by the dealers other cars

Rory,I`ve no hard evidence but this is a new Company in Bolton selling stock that was once associated with Stellar Motor Company (see map on website) and with another Company whose name I`ve forgotten.(Mosesgate)

All of the reviews shown are 5 star ratings which doesn`t sit well with me. The previous two Companies had a good number of poor ratings and I wouldn`t have bought from them.

One of our Members ( a John THE TOURIST) bought from them.He paid a high price but was I understand satisfied with the deal and service he received.

In spite of what they say, they are not Lexus Specialists although they do stock a good number of Lexus vehicles

Be wary and ask detailed questions and expect to receive documented evidence that what you have been told is true. But I would not be surprised if evidence is not forthcoming.

Lovely car and for that price it should be. An average of less than 1700 miles per year! Even on a different plate it should still show the history. Second hand cars have gone up in price but I think at the price they are asking it's more than a tad optimistic to say the least. I think the most you should pay would be around 8-9,000 absolute max. Good luck and only you can decide what you want to pay. Offer him 7 I'd say.

They are indeed stellar motors, I went to view the other I mentioned at 8k and as I said it wasn't worth near that, the lad I spoke to gave me a whole lot of flannel and I walked away, I myself am from a sales background anyway so dealing with a poor sales person from a poor company isn't an issue lol, also I know what I want from the car itself, really just looking for a guide on the price given how much they vary

For example a bronze one from a private seller with 54k on it is 8 grand, that looks reasonable, should this silver one realistically be about 9?

Lol, I'd love to pay 7, but I'm sure I'd get laughed out of the forecourt asking for 5k off 12, even if 12 is very high, I was hoping under 9, again, assuming it ticks all boxes when I've looked

Yeah i agree with 8-9 but a base line of 7 and come up from there. Use your knowledge to show him you know what you're talking about. I paid 6400 for my 54 ls430 in January with 101,000 on the clock plus it had the radar cruise control.

I really like yours in blue, no plans selling yours any time soon? 🤣

only of use paying that sort of money if you're going to " save " the car for high days and holidays . short very very careful trips to totally preserve the miles and any exorbitant value you think the car is worth

I can never understand why one would want to buy a fantastic driving car to just leave it in the garage .......  life's too short ..  unless you're rich beyond whatever and just want to look at the car ....... £5k tops :wink3:

remind me please when someone finds out what it's sold for !

I posted about that car yesterday.

As I said, perfect for a collector or someone with deep pockets.
The car market has gone a bit wappy of late and dealers like this are taking advantage of it.
If you need the car then there are much better deals out there.

I spotted one up in Newcastle with 54k for £8 that I mentioned already, private seller, very little detail on the ad, but does initially look good, and i'm not a fan of the gold/bronze option, but i'm gonna use that as well as others i've seen as a guide given the current market...

My IS300 owes me nothing after the 12 years i've had it, so although the LS430 might cost me more than it would a couple of years ago, the IS300 will sell for much more than I expected too, so theres some balance with how the market is

went for a look, car drove great, minor bodywork flaws, some not at all representative of a 31k mile car, has been in a scrape as the back bumper has been painted poorly and has all started to chip off, and it was reported in prevoius maintenance that the parking sensors were painted over, the chap took offence to me wanting to negotiate and called me a time waster, and told me his job was to collect cars and store them (weird)

ah well, the search continues, i'm not heading up to geordie place for the bronze one as its not the colour I want, i'm gonna hold out for a blue one instead, but i'll be avoiding Stellar/Black Stallion going forward

This was (sadly now sold) the best / cleanest LS430 I have seen - Kass Classics - LEXUS LS 430 4.3 4DR 2006, granted it came with 64k on the clock, but looked absolutely pristine in and out. Was priced at £9,900 initially and went up to £10,900 once prices started rising everywhere. Came with radar guided cruise control, so looked to be the highest possible spec model.

Still beats the Bolton offering in my eyes, I think they're being overly ambitious asking this much for a car based solely on the low miles it has done, it's not top spec, hasn't even got premium tyres on it from what I can see - and the sales guy didn't do himself any favors calling you a time waster 🙂

The Bolton one has One Bridgestone, one accelera, one nexen n8000 and I forget the 4th one 🤣

The tyres alone would have me leaving at that point!

4 different tyres with different qualities all trying to go in 4 different directions at the same time on a supposedly pristine high performance car.

I’m so happy I managed to purchase this genuine fine example with everything sorted prior to buying and just 77,000 miles for a lot less.

And they claim to be Lexus Specialists !

Mosesgate, Stellar and now Black Stallion-all run by the same cowboys with 5 star ratings !

I did indeed buy my current car from these guys in Bolton. Their "specialism" is getting to private buyers quickly with cash offers for good cars, then marking them up optimistically.

I can't complain, as otherwise I wouldn't have got mine. 41k miles, one owner, serviced by supplying dealer every year. Paid £8.5k, after calling the dealer and checking. Subsequently spoke to the owner, who only used it when he had guests and needed 4 seats, hence the low mileage. It's my daily driver, and I have been happy with it. But that's no guarantee for any other car from this source.

Good luck!

Any thoughts on this? I'm arranging to go see this one on Sunday, I don't suppose anyone lives right near it who could give it a look before then?

RF53 PGX is the reg plate if you want to check the MOT history, the current one runs until March 2023. Some of the advisories mention suspension components, might not be cheap:

  • Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement both front
  • Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge both rear
  • Offside Rear Suspension arm pin or bush worn but not resulting in excessive movement

They've listed it as a one owner car. Exterior and interior look really clean, generally looks like it's been well looked after, no obvious rust spots or dents, hardly any wear on the steering wheel, tyres seem to have plenty of tread on them.

There's some higher resolution pictures of the car here: https://www.sdvehicles.co.uk/details/used-car-in-nuneaton/lexus/ls430/4.3/691010/
