Is300h 2016 oil type ? 5w30 or 0w20

Hi all .

Just wondering about this . I'm going to get my local independent to service my is300h at 90k miles . I'm going to get all the required serviced but I'm wondering about oil spec ? All the online sites for buying oil seem to recommend a 5w30 fully synthetic,  but toyota oil seems to be a 0w20.. any idea ?

0w20 as the book recommends. Why not try a reputable local motor factors rather than an online crowd of clowns who would sell you anything.

That way if your indie has a problem or is unhappy with the quality you can simply go exchange it.

I asked the same question when I saw Toyota Original 0W-20 oil named on my first Lexus service bill years ago, and was told this grade gives better fuel economy and is more effective in a wider range of engine temperatures.  Given that I wouldn’t know how to dispute these claims even if I were inclined to do so on the basis of the permanent tiny spark of suspicion I have about Toyota’s corporate vested interests - I have nevertheless always gone along with the manufacturer’s recommendation in this as in most things.

I don't have a 300h, but I do have 0w20 oil in my car at present and it does indeed improve fuel economy by a small amount. I've noticed it after it was put in my car during the last service. It was on 5w30 beforehand.

The engine also seems to react more quickly - spins faster during startup, more free-revving etc, plus idles at a slightly lower RPM.

Supposedly, the thinner oil is also beneficial regarding the hydraulic lifters in the VVTI system.

The downside? It costs roughly twice as much as 5w30! 😃

Amortised over 15000km service intervals, twice the cost for the oil seems absolutely reasonable for  the benefits  you describe.

Interesting, currently have 5W30 in my 2007 IS 250, might try 0W20 next oil change
