I wasn't sure whether to put this in the General Maintenance forum, so mods please feel free to move the post as necessary.

Just a quick post, I inspected the cabin/pollen filter last weekend and was surprised at the condition of it in just over a year of use, so I decided to replace it. So here's a side-by-side comparison of new and used.

Uh, no. The used filter was as pristine as the new one shown, when I installed it just over a year ago. I reckon the dirtyness is dust and possibly diesel soot. I was quite surprised by the condition of the filter after just a year of use. But it shows that it has done its job.

wow, do you live somewhere really dusty? Mine was a bit grey after 15,000 miles but not black like yours. That's crazy. 😲

Blimey that's crazy how dirty that cabin filter got in just one year. I can't believe the air in Cardiff is that bad. But well done in posting your findings. Think I'll have a look at the one in mine.

When I had a Prius as a taxi, it was always like that after 3 months and 10,000 miles. Not surprised when in use 12 hours per day, 5 days a week.

Looks like the original was carbon impregnated?

That was my first thought - Lexus original filter has activated carbon and it looks like that out of the box.

It wasn't the original filter, it was a third party one which I'd sourced online and installed just over a year ago, and was identical to the replacement filter I bought a few days ago.

Well... you've prompted me to change mine this afternoon. I have a spare... I always get a sense of achievement when I do.
